No, you have to file in the state of the physical location where you're working for that specific job/date. So if you're based in MI, like Fade, but you're working for a week in NC, then you have to file that week's wages with NC.

It's like paying state use taxes. Technically you're supposed to, very few people ever do. Most people would also be under the threshold to require filing in other states, anyway. A week's wages at even 75k/yr is roughly ~$1500, no state would come after you for $100.

Several cities have local taxes also. My son had to file during college while doing a "paid" internship. His refund was something like $2. I told him to not cash the check as a protest.

Never had to do that for work. Plus you probably didn't work there long enough to have to file. Most states have a minimum.

If I want to claim any local per-diem, hotel, or other client site expenses for a project, I have to set the location where I worked down to at least the state and county level. That is forced within our timekeeping system, so I can't lie about it even if I wanted to try.

I do the same thing. Never filed in other states. Then again, I would never claim business expenses on my own taxes. I would just take the reimbursement from my company. We also can't charge travel to a project. That all gets expensed to our department.

So I was recommended by one of my coworkers to join the women's group for my organization. Today was the first meeting I attended and part of it was to plan a seminar on men being advocates for women in our organization. I couldn't believe some of the horror stories from the younger women who shared their stories, even recently.

It's shocking how bad it still is, even in a fairly progressive and inclusive environment. Or what I thought was one.

Business is always going to be bad because business, like politics, is a place where by definition predators thrive. Other bad spots: law enforcement, the military, entertainment, athletics, and other arenas where attributes other than intelligence get you ahead.

My co-workers still say awful things when women are not around. I don't hear them much anymore because I try (not always successfully) to call BS on it when it happens, so now they essentially think of me as an Honorary Woman when it comes to bad jokes. And of course I have a few righty friends who go out of their way to come up with the worst possible thing to say to me to see if they can get a rise out of me, because that's what people do. I opine about the relative merits of their sh-thole southern roots in kind, for the same reason that I wore my bright orange Forever Shea t-shirt to work yesterday.
