  • Yale 2019 Off Season thread

Disappointing .500 season. Saying farewell to Goalie Sam Tucker. Defensemen Charlie Curti and Captain Anthony Walsh. Forwards Andrew Gaus, J.M. Piotrowski, Ted Hart and Joe Snively. It will be interesting in the near future to see what happens to Snively, he had an excellent four years at Yale and will have a shot at the pros as a free agent. As to next year, my guess is that Yale will see the following recruits coming in. Goalie Connor Hopkins, Defensmen Michael Young and Brandon Tabakin. Forwards Quinton Ong, Teddy Wooding, Cole Donhauser and Hayden Rowan. Three of the four new forwards are averaging almost a point per game in their respective leagues, hopefully that bodes well for more offense.

Good day for Joe Snively. He signed a two year entry level deal, beginning 2019-2020 with the Washington Capitals. Also today, he was named to the first team All ECAC.

Yale picked up another pair of brothers for 2020 and 2022. Jojo and Seiya Tanaka-Campbell.

Thanks for the updates LT. Happy for Snively. I almost have a feeling we wasted a player of his talent the last couple of years. Let's hope the new players give the team a shot in the arm. The last couple of years have been a depressing plunge to mediocrity.

Middle of the pack last two years Bulldog, not what you expect after all of the successes. The players coming in have some decent numbers albiet in other than the usual recruiting leagues. It seems Yale has moved away from the USHL players for some reason, that was the pipeline that never stopped giving for a while. I hope Hall somehow becomes the main man next year, we will see.

As an opponent it feels like Snively was with Yale for about a decade. He probably dovetailed with another guy who was like him. I feel like Matthew Peca has been on the Q roster every year since they joined the ECAC.

Almost dovetailed with Andrew Miller, but Miller had a better supporting cast, Q had Peca, Anas, Tufto. Not sure who is going to pick it up for Eli next year, hopefully Hall, Stevens and the Smith's. Good D-corps returning.

                      7 YHA Awards Handed Out

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bulldogs held their 2018-19 season-ending banquet tonight at the Schley Room inside Ingalls Rink and seven Yale Hockey Association Awards were handed out while there was also time to honor the class of 2019.

Not surprisingly, the player who for the first time in Yale Hockey history led the team in points all four years, took home the Murray Murdoch Award as team MVP. Joe Snively not only led the Blue this year with 15 goals and 36 points, he has already been scoring goals in the American Hockey League after being signed by the Washington Capitals.

                      Here are all the awards:

                      Yale Hockey Association Awards

Martin Dwyer III Award- Presented by the YHA to the most outstanding first-year player of the Yale hockey team.

                      Jack St. Ivany '22, D

John Poinier Award- Presented by the YHA to the best defensive player on the Yale hockey team.

                      Chandler Lindstrand '20, D

Yale Hockey Coaches Award- Presented to that member of the Yale Hockey team whose determination and desire have contributed most to team morale and the spirit of hockey at Yale.

                      Tyler Welsh '21, F

David C. Noyes III Award- Presented by the YHA to that member of the Yale hockey team whose performance and attitude has most inspired his teammates through determination, grit and courage.

                      Robbie DeMontis '20, F

                      J. Murray Murdoch Award- Presented by the YHA to that member of the Yale hockey team deemed the most valuable player.

                      Joe Snively '19, F

Edward M. Wright, M.D. Award- For athletic and academic accomplishments, leadership and dedication to the higher purposes of intercollegiate athletics. This award is based equally on two factors: success on the ice and success in the classroom.

                      Sam Tucker '19, G

Malcom G. Chace Award- Presented by the YHA to that member of the Yale hockey team who, through sportsmanship, spirit, and ability, has best served the finest traditions of Yale hockey as exemplified by Malcom G. Chace.

Yale picked a bad time to play their worst game of the season.
