    Re: CCC Hockey Coaches Poll

Does anyone know what is going on with Salve? Losing to Wentworth last weekend was somewhat of a surprise; Wentworth could pull a few more surprises, but six days later losing to Western new England is a shocker.

Looking at the Box Score, Wojtala didn't start the game. They started the Sophomore goalie who gave up 4 on 7 shots in just under 16 minutes. Too big a hole for even Salve climb out of!

I can understand why they may have wanted to give their ace goalie the night off. He has to be getting tired with all of the minutes he has collected and with how well he has played. Calculated coaching decision that went south quickly.

Other than the really shaky start, the game seemed pretty benign.

I didn't get to watch any of the Nichols/Curry game, the third period and overtime must have been fun. Should be a barn burner this afternoon at Nichols.

There is definitely something wrong down in Newport/. backup goalie only gave up three. Eacgh time Salve made a run last night they gave up another goal right away. Wojtala has not been as good as he was last year. Not as steady. Still an unbelievable goalie but has had some games where he has looked mortal. Wentworth last weekend and last night are most recent. Too many penalties and PK l;atel;y has not been very good.. Different lineups almost every game from looking ast the box scores? They are still a very good team but need to get it together soon or they will be on the outside looking in..

Curry is playing very well lately and tonight at Nichols could be interesting.

Endicott should have an easy one and watch out for Wentworth at home. Could be a surprise game.

What a strange weekend in the Conference. Wentworth totally dominated UNE at home after giving up 9 goals the night before,5 in the third period. Curry takes 3 points away from Nichols and WNEU take the home game against Salve and the travels to Newport and goes to overtime before losing.

A weekend where the top teams should have cleaned up and separated themselves, the league went from, maybe five teams who could contend to maybe seven teams who could contend.

It looks like Becker is the only team that is an easy walkover, and that could change next week!

I don t know if this means the conference has improved or gotten weaker!

Needless to say, the bottom end isn't very strong but the top end isn't bad!

              Re: CCC Hockey Coaches Poll

What a great weekend coming up in the CCC. The top six teams will be playing each other, UNE vs Endicott, Nichols vs. Salve and Curry vs. Wentworth. Given the last two weekends this should be very interesting. Trying to calculate the possibilities is mind-boggling. UNE's last five games are Nichols (home and home), Endicott (home and home) and Salve (home). Curry has two with Wentworth, 2 with WNEU and one with Becker. Endicott has the two with UNE, two with Wentworth and one with WNEU. Salve has two with Nichols, two with Becker and one, on the road with UNE. Nichols has the 2 with UNE, 2 with Salve and their final game at home with Wentworth.

And, if any of you can make sense of what I just wrote, congratulations, you've been accepted to be a student-athlete at Adrian College! (I have no idea what that meant.!)

                Re: CCC Hockey Coaches Poll

Everybody in the CCC will be buckled in tight this weekend. The first games of a huge CCC end of season run. Last year, at this time, I think we had 3 teams nationally ranked. This year just Endicott is in at 9. Five teams are playing well right now and any of them could go on a run here and solidify a spot in the top 15. They could also beat each other up and we finish the season with no teams in the national rankings.

                  Re: CCC Hockey Coaches Poll

The first night of the first big weekend is in the books. UNE, Salve and Curry all held serve, meaning that Endicott, Nichols and Wentworth have big tasks today. I was at the UNE/Endicott game last night and I was quite surprised by Endicott's play. The refs were calling a pretty tight game, but each penalty they called was legit. Endicott seemed to "chirp" on each call. At one point the Endicott coach went off on the refs before he settled down. One interesting call was a double minor for roughing on UNE's Fleurant and a major face masking call on Endicott's Hayes. The two were tangled up in the neutral zone, fell to ice and appears that both were engaged in the grabbing and pulling. Hayes reached up as the whistle was blown and grabbed Fleurant's facemask and pulled it off his helmet. When the calls were made Fleurant has the double minor for roughing and Hayes had the facemasking and game misconduct call. I wondered if he hadn't grabbed the facemark, would Endicott have a 4 minute man up?

At one point in the third, UNE up 5-1, Olson from Endicott, and a UNE player were chirping at each other and the linesman got between them. Olson put his hands on the smaller linesman's shoulders to move him out of the way. From my vantage point, it was a pretty flagrant grabbing of the official and definitely worthy of the call. The linesman was pretty upset and grabbed the player's jersey to escort him to the box and when they got to the gate, the linesman gave him a pretty good shove into the box. I don't think Olson liked it and put on a pretty good show of stumbling as a result of the linesman's shove. The linesman was visibly upset that the player had grabbed him.

The game was played at a pretty high pace, for the most part. Endicott really seemed to be taken off their game by how tightly the refs were calling the game, but, as I said, all the calls were legit, even if tight!

We'll have to see if the same teams can up their games today. It's a big day for Nichols and Endicott.

I don't have a dog in the fight and cannot comment on the officiating at this specific game but overall I think the officiating across D3 has been as inconsistent and as poor as I've seen in years. I won't name any specific officials but I've seen enough to know three of them who frequently do not stay up with the play while letting as many as three players lag behind them as they look up the ice. When I know one of them is officiating I watch the players behind the play because I know they will be sending cheap shots and the official cannot see them. I also think many of the linesmen need a class on positioning as more and more offsides are missed because of officials being far out of position.

I did have a dog in the fight last night, and I can say that each and every penalty that UNE received was earned! I have no disagreement with the call on Fleurant, just found it odd that he was the only one receiving the roughing call.

Also agree on the linesman. I think, three times last night UNE benefited from the puck hitting a linesman. I think two ended up with really good scoring chances for UNE, didn't capitalize, but still good chances. On one occasion, Endicott was clearing the puck, and the linesman took it full force in midsection. There was a definite plastic thud heard from across the rink! I also think the officials had some "rabbit ears" on! The seemed to engage players on both teams a lot after the whistles. Obviously, couldn't hear what was said, but these guys do CCC games a lot and they should know what to expect from each team.

One other thought I had watching last night. There were some really dangerous hits during the game. UNE's Seltenrich (sp?) ran an Endicott kid from behind. There was clear intent in the hit. He was given a major and game misconduct, but the conference should be reviewing these hits and controlling the players. To Coach Swallow's credit, when the player went to the penalty bench, he sent him to the locker room, I think before he was given the major and the game. At least, that's what it looked like from where I stood!

Sorry to go on like this, but two really talented teams and the game kind of devolved!

2nd night in the CCC was interesting to say the least. Endicott/UNE looked like they were missing a few players. At least 3-4 on Endicott side and one for UNE, Was not surprised UNE won given the rosters BUT didn’t think it would be blowout. Thought Endicott would have some fight in them after last night, especially at home.

Salve looked real good this weekend. Two very close games vs. Nichols who plays everyone tough. EN’ers in both games sealed it for Salve. Salve’s confidence looks like its back. Defensively, They shut down Nichols and offensively they generated opportunities. Officiating tonight was not good. Too many calls that were questionable at best. Salve needed this weekend to get on track and they took two big wins. If they don’t look past Becker next weekend the last game at UNE should be a great one.

Now for possibly the team in the CCC who may be playing the best hockey, Curry. Starting with the big win over UMBoston right up to wins over Endicott and Nichols this team is tough to play. Skilled and gritty. This team could win it all.

Next weekends big series UNE/Nichols and Endicott/WIT, Salve better be ready to play vs. Becker and same goes for Curry vs. WENU.

I agree with you about Curry. If they take care of business over the next two weeks, and UNE, Nichols and Salve beat up on each other, Curry could finish as the Conference's top seed.

I didn't listen to the broadcast (watched with the sound off!), but I did notice the absence of Olsson. I also noticed the real lack of intensity in the Endicott effort. Are there things going on with the Gulls? I did hear some parents in the stands on Friday night voicing dissatisfaction with particular parts of the teams play, most notably the PP. Although, to hear parents complain is not unusual.

Looking forward to last two weekends and then on to the Conference playoffs!

Don’t think Curry can win the league unless salve loses both games next weekend vs Becker. I do believe they could win the conference playoffs.

Endicott had at least 4 regulars not in uniform last night. One for a DQ the night before and it looks like 3 others? Possibly due to the 4 misconducts they received on Friday night.???

I don’t listen to parents!! These are the same parents that were saying how great the PP and team was after winning 10 of last 11 games and moving up to #8 in country..

If things play out as you would expect the UNE/Salve final game of the season could determine the #1 & #2 seeds. That is if UNE beats Nichols twice next weekend.

Salve’s fate is in their own hands. Win out claim #1 seed. Picture will be a lot cleared next week at this time.

Was Endicott still missing players last night? They took it on the chin again. I don't think any of the top teams want an opening round game against Wentworth in the playoffs, they're coming on strong after a slow start. What happened in Maine after UNE opened with a two goal lead and ended in a tie with Nichols? Those two schools have had some good games the last few years. Looks like Salve will have the top seed; will anyone else be able to make a run on the road like Nichols did a year ago? Interesting times within the conference but overall not looking as strong as a year ago.

                                Re: CCC Hockey Coaches Poll

It all comes down to the final week, the final game of the season. Salve and Curry both picked up 8 points in the last two weeks, UNE picked up seven points. Those three teams did what they needed to do. Endicott and Nichols really failed to take care of business, Nichols garnered one point and Endicott picked up two!

The big game, to end the season, will be at The Alfond in Biddeford on Saturday night. Salve travels to UNE for the winner-take-all contest for the Conference Regular season championship and home ice through the Conference tourney. This game is much bigger for UNE because, if they lose, they could drop to third and that would mean they would draw 6th seed Wentworth, and Wentworth is going to be a real wild card in these playoffs!

Wentworth, in the last five weeks, has wins over Salve, UNE and Endicott, so that could really mess things up, if they go on a run!
