  • Russian Junior Team B (The Red Stars) takes on US colleges, part II

The team selected from Russian Major Junior League's player not participating in the IIHF WJC will be touring the Northeast again next winter. This team is called the "Red Stars". Last year they played Army (beating them 11-2) and Yale (losing 3-5). They were also scheduled to play Holy Cross, but couldn't make it to due to a snowstorm that closed airports. Here are the dates posted so far:

    Dec 27th -- at UVM
    Dec 29th -- at Providence
    Dec 30th -- at Yale

I'll post updates as I find them.

Saw them this year at Yale, surprisingly good talent level, the Yale score is a misnomer as Yale sat their top four scorers, and the goalies played a period each.

I would prefer that Yale not schedule these guys this year again, there really is no reason other than getting a good scrimmage in during the holiday break, even a second liner going down can mess up a team. Maybe every three years or so. There was great attendance this year so that may be a motivation.

Allright, an update on the schedule of the Russian Red Stars:

Dec 17th -- at North Dakota
(intermission with two games vs. NAHL teams)
      Dec 27th -- at UVM
      Dec 28th -- at Yale
Dec 30th -- at Northern Michigan
Jan 3rd -- at Notre Dame
      Jan 5th -- at UMass-Lowell

Much longer and way more ambitious trip than last time.

I will definitely be at Lowell, Yale is a maybe, and UVM a big maybe. I wish I could go to the Ralph on Dec 17th to cheer on my countrymen...
