Let's all hope that Adrian recovers fast. Aaron will miss tonight's game to be with brother in Germany. Jackson will take over for tonight,s game vs Hobart.

First and foremost, thoughts and prayers are with the Saul family. Glad to see that he's not paralyzed, and is recovering.

From the hockey perspective, I'm sure the Soaring Eagles will be just fine. He's done a fantastic job coaching this team, and Coach Jackson is more than capable of handling these guys in his absence. The first game of the postseason is an unfortunate time for this to happen, but family must always come first, even for the head coach of a solid contender like Elmira.

For those who don't know, he is referring to Aaron Saul's brother, Adrian, who broke his neck while playing in a hockey game there, not Adrian College.

ELMIRA -- The Elmira College men's hockey team must play without its head coach when it takes on Hobart College in the Eastern College Athletic Conference West men's hockey semifinals at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Murray Athletic Center in Pine Valley.

Aaron Saul is in Germany to be with his brother, Adrian, who broke his neck while playing in a hockey game there.

Assistant coach Dean Jackson will run the Soaring Eagles in his absence, Aaron Saul said.

Julia Saul, Aaron Saul's wife, said Friday that Adrian Saul broke vertebrae in his neck after colliding with another player. She added that Adrian was not paralyzed, but that he has no family in Germany, so his brother went over to be with him.

Aaron Saul said Friday that Adrian "is on the road of recovery" and should be just fine.

Adrian Saul, a 2000 Elmira College graduate, is among the top scorers in Soaring Eagles history with 136 points. He led the team with in assists (31) and points (47) for the 1998-99 season.

Hobart (15-9-2, 4-7-1 ECAC West) reached the semis by defeating Manhattanville, 1-0, on Wednesday at Hobart. Patrick Moriarty scored , in the first period, and Nick Broadwater made 36 saves for the shutout.

Elmira and Hobart have met three times this season.

The Statesmen won, 6-5 Nov. 19, on home ice. The Soaring Eagles then swept Hobart at the Murray Athletic Center, 3-0 on Feb. 11 and 4-0 on Feb. 12.

The ECAC West announced its all-conference team Friday, and Elmira defenseman Martin Lee was voted by the league's coaches as the Defensive Player of the Year. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound junior has three goals and 11 assists in 25 games.

Lee also made the ECAC West first team along with fellow Soaring Eagles Kevin Willer and Darren MacDonald.

Willer, a junior forward, leads Elmira in scoring with 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists) in 25 games. MacDonald, a sophomore goalie, has a 14-2-4 record with a 2.08 goals-against average and a .932 saves percentage.

Soaring Eagles making the second team were junior forward Darcy Vaillancourt and senior defenseman Karl Linden.

Vaillancourt is Elmira's top assist man with 18 to go along with his 13 goals over 25 games. In 23 games, Linden has six goals and 11 assists.

Freshman forward Jesper Strale made the All-Rookie squad after he produced nine goals and three assists. His three game-winning goals lead the Soaring Eagles.

Hobart, coached by Elmira College graduate Mark Taylor, will come in with the ECAC West Player of the Year in Matthew Wallace. The senior forward has 16 goals and 11 assists in 24 games for the Statesmen.

Broadwater and sophomore defenseman Brad Richard represent Hobart on the second team.

Broadwater, a sophomore, has a 14-6-2 record with a 2.31 goals-against average and a .930 saves percentage. Richard has four goals and 10 assists in 25 games.

Gary Heenan of Utica College was the Coach of the Year, with Neumann University's Michael Rey the Rookie of the Year.

The Soaring Eagles had won eight games in a row and already clinched the ECAC West regular-season title before they closed out the schedule with a loss to Neumann and a tie against Utica.

Neumann (13-7-5, 7-4-1 ECAC West) and Utica (17-7-1, 6-5-1 ECAC West) will meet in Saturday's other ECAC West semifinal at Neumann's Ice Works Skating Complex in Aston, Pa.
