He is really lame, I agree

And I'm not even remotely pro-Tulsi due to the way she pals around with fascists like Modi but I find the Russia hysteria nauseating and it's hilarious that she's still using that as a scapegoat for her ineptitude in 2016.

I don't think Russia is in the top 5 in terms of threats to our democracy or as big a threat as liberals like to portray it. As far as their foreign policy, like you said, ours hasn't a whole lot better so I'd rather just focus on fixing that first but they are a problem in that regard.

Europe would beg to differ, and Europe is very important for us.

    Threats to our democracy:

    1. The right's evolution into fascism
    2. Legalized bribery of public officials
    3. The effect of big money in campaigns
    4. Vote suppression by Jim Crow II tactics
    5. Methodical interference by a variety of bad actors

We need to stop all of the above.

Im guilty of that last sentiment for sure...

I just cannot back Warren after her varied lies and her Willingness to back our 740,000,000,000 military budget. I would like someone who will begin our migration away from a defense economy and as Dr. King put it the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today.

My view of Bernie as the best of the bunch has a lot to do with speeches and interviews that ive Seen from his younger days. I think in many ways he remains unchanged from those youthful ideals.

Apropos of nothing here but...to think I was a republican for 40 years (1/2 my family is Cuban, + dad is still a big Reagan disciple) only to have my head and heart changed radically by reading two books about 7 years ago is astounding. I wish I had this series of epiphanies much earlier.

This just happened and it illustrates volumes.

My father posted an anti-Trump thing on Facebook. He does that. I hate it. He hates Trump. He pollutes Facebook. Whatever. My cousin (blue collar, white, rural Minnesota) responds to the post by saying, "Do you really want socialism?".

Now my cousin isn't stupid but he is just your typical blue collar, rural, white, high school educated guy. And they all don't know that Social Security and Medicare are socialism by their definition. Pretty sure his parents who live in the same area are on Social Security/Medicare right now.

I think we would all like to read trix's top 5

    I do.

They got ****head elected. It's on the list of things that helped him. It wasn't one thing that got him over the hump. It was the combination of things all together that got him elected. And as long as Russia is still doing it we're still going to see Trump's get elected.

Interesting. What were the two books?

I'm marginally less concerned about the military budget these days now that I understand almost the whole military is just a welfare program. It's a gigantic make work boondoggle, with some vocational training thrown in. It's the path out of poverty for a lot of people.

Bernie understands the systemic despotism of capitalism in a way Warren does not, that is true. But the majority of Americans are closer to Warren's domestic nuts and bolts understanding. Effective reform movements in America come from bourgeois liberals, not from the working class. The white working class in America, since the 60s, is fascist. They were captured by their Plute slavemasters and have a form of PTSD Stockholm Syndrome. Marcuse and Adorno would turn in their graves, but they are not going to help. They love their chains. John Steinbeck is not walking through that door.

So even though Bernie has the better answer, Warren has the approach that can work here and now.

There's a unicorn out there that could change that: Black Bernie. Better still, Mexican Marx. That would be formidable.

On this topic, it's safe to go ahead and admit your cousin is a fcking moron. He has clearly mainlined the Fox serum and thinks he's "informed" because of it.

Id rather have a jobs program that built infrastructure, rebuilt national park hiking trails, etc.

Thank GOD my dad doesn't do social media (he is an uber-left). He's bad enough at not having a civil discussion about politics in general before he starts ranting that we have a no-politics rule at any family gathering. It doesn't help that my future SIL is a MAGA.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

Dad's not "uber" left. He can't stand Trump though. And he obviously was old enough to live through Nixon. I was 4? Something like that.
