Finally getting a job in my field, 13.5 years after I graduated from NMU: Anti-List. New job is working with autistic kids age 2 to 10. Still have to pass training, an observation, and a 90 day evaluation period, but soon enough, I'll be finally working in psychology/mental health/social work.

Not being able to use vacation in place of unpaid time off is on The List. I could have done it before my short term disability, but now I can't. I guess it isn't the worst thing to happen to me this year, but it's annoying that I thought I could get a full paycheck, and I can't.

    Say what?
I expected they'd make you burn out vacation before making you take unpaid.

Yeah, I don't get that either. Even if you want to bank vacation time, at worst you can still pad it with unpaid.

    Me no understand.

BTW, everybody knows to use all your vacation and PTO time before you quit, right? I've never worked anywhere where you can monetize it.

Your employer took your time. Take his money.

We're not REQUIRED. We can, but that at point, I thought I'd only be out a little while and I didn't want to go the rest of the year without vacation. We are required to use all sick time before taking unpaid.

I've never worked anywhere I couldn't monetize it (vacation yes, sick time no).

If I know I'm leaving an employer I'll bank as much vacation as I can, wait for my next salary action, and then resign. I get paid out for old hours on the new higher rate.

All that said, that money ends up being pseudo-vacation between old job and new job.

Huh. Different businesses I guess. This is not the first time I've gleaned that in my biz we get a little screwed.

I bought an artificial Christmas tree 3 years ago. A year ago, the lights malfunctioned. Some of them stay on after the tree is switched off, and they're not the correct colors. I contacted the company last year, and they said they would send a new one (it was under warranty), but parts were back ordered, so they didn't know when it would be sent. A few months later, they sent the top piece. I've heard nothing else, so I contacted them again.... and the brand was sold, but not the company, so they say they are not responsible for warranties from the previous company.

Laws vary by state. Some states you are owed what you accrue.

I got paid for unused PTO from my last job. There was a reason I didn't take any the year I ended up leaving. However, that was 18+ years ago, so things might have changed in MN....
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

When I went on FMLA 3 years ago, my 6 weeks STD was used before my PTO was burned (which it was - over Christmas). *shrug*

Would pouring a disgusting but harmless liquid on someone to wake them up be considered assault?

Husband and spoiled milk are on the List. He left 2 bottles sitting out all night, and yet when baby woke up at 1 am and 4 am, I was the one to take care of her. So, at 5:30 when I wake up to have enough time to pump before going to work, I notice the spoiled milk sitting out. Nothing like being exhausted to then also be angry first thing.

Possible battery but likely not assault, so go for it. But he has the "husband just trying to help" defense, which all husbands just seem to understand.
