It looks like Eric Green may be leaving the program as he was added to the Muskegon Lumberjacks roster today. Sometimes these transactions don't pan out (see BC's Wahlstrom last season), but given Eric has yet to play in a game, this move wouldn't surprise me.

Good luck to him, if he does leave. He was pretty well recruited and chose to come to Lowell as a true 18-year old freshman, and never saw a moment of time.

It also puts Lowell into an interesting spot at the net next year. Neaton (having played ... well, whatever he plays this year), and possibly Harper ... who's also not really playing this year. That could be scary in net.

Something that's been discussed at the top of 107 ... the home results have been trending negatively for a while now. I'm not sure what's going on with that, when we've had some great crowds.

Don't get me started on the student section again, but man, we need a better atmosphere as well.

I am blaming the home losses (somewhat jokingly) on the loss of the red goal light. Ever since UML stopped paying student groups to press the goal light button, UML has struggled at home. The horn is nice, but bring back the goal lights!!

Home wins and attendance on downward trend indicate lack of local engagement on team and on fans. On the team side, the more local connection, the more compete. Look at the Beanpot trends. NU didn't win until they started focusing recruiting on local kids, like BU and BC did, less reliance on kids out of country. And then they started winning. BC and BU have trended downward in years they have more out of country players vs local. Same for UML. Look at demographics of roster and it reflects in record and fan base.

Many people in the area complain about decline of development in the area. Development is just one aspect. Fan engagement, wins, overall success is tied to the geography. A team that is mostly Canadian or European based is going to be challenged to compete in New England and to get fan support in New England. A team made up of more kids from area will be more motivated. Look at Buffalo with a bunch of local kids competing hard against bruins when in town. Human nature.

Follow along skippy. Has nothing to do with Tier 1 players. Has to do with getting invested players and invested fans. Fans love to see kids from region. Players from east coast are more invested in being part of Hockey East teams. Hockey East teams with the most area invested players win. Stats don't lie.

Well, chief, you aren't going to get wins chasing tier 1 players from across the world. You don't need the best players, you need the right ones. UML is a championship program. When they start taking pride in that and in their roots, they'll get the right ones and the wins again.

I agree, Lowell should only recruit local players. Imagine how much better they'd be. It's not like the best player in program history was from Michigan or anything.

Shh, we should only target kids from the east because they are clearly better than players from the west. It should be clear given the performance of all teams in the NCAA that all the Frozen Four teams for the last 4 years have been from the East. You know, like UMass' best player last year who was from... western canada.

The idea that casual fan support is linked to winning makes sense to me. The idea that recruiting local kids is going to lead to more wins is... far less obvious, and cherrypicked stats do nothing for me. I'm not a huge recruiting guy, but I trust Norm to get the guys he wants.

The fact coco's son isn't one of them is unfortunate.
