Yeah why not throw it there on purpose all the time now.
John Smoltz mentioned that. He said you are taught if you aren't going to get the runner, throw it at him for that very reason -- you may get the interference call.

This has been true for decades. If the guy is even a step inside the line you peg him.
I did not know that no team has ever won 4 road games in the World Series.
And road teams have never won 6 in MLB, NHL, or NBA.

And Houston subbed a pitcher, which also changes the course. If the call were reversed, you'd have to allow the erasure of Hou's move.
Did the commentators mention later on that the call was not reviewable (which does make sense)? If so, why did it take them that long to tell the umpires we can't review the call?

Had to call Vegas first.....
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

They were discussing the legality of the protest. It was determined to be a judgement call and therefore could not be protested.
I didn’t realize the running lane rule was so little known. That extra stripe down the first line isn’t just for decoration. Stay in that lane and you’re immune to interference.

It doesn't go all the way to the base, though, from home. IMO, if you keep your path straight along the "real" line the whole way, and don't divert, you're good. If you run outside the baseline, then divert inside, you are toast.

You’re correct that it doesn’t start from home, you get 45 feet to get into the lane, but you’re “supposed” to make your way into the lane. Most guys don’t. And most of the time it doesn’t matter. It usually only comes up with throws from the catcher
Of course, Joe Torre said the call had nothing to do with the running lane and only had to do with knocking the glove off, so... yeah...

I call BS.
Say the runner had been entirely in the running lane in foul territory and the throw had been wild and Turner had collided with the glove well into foul territory? By Torre's logic, that is also interference.
The call was justifiable (50/50) but it was absolutely about the running lane. I don't understand why they'd lie about it -- they have a perfectly defensible application of the rule and a judgment that honest people can disagree about. Why f-ck about? Has everybody become infected by Dump and they just lie for practice, now?

Part of me wonders if he just misspoke. Another part of me wonders why it’s him explaining the call and not the director of umpires, or head of the umpires union, or the umpires themselves as they did with the obstruction call in the Boston-STL series a few years ago.
