    Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

Not bad for the first real game of the season. AIC is certainly a much improved team compared to previous years. I thought the first was pretty even, maybe even a slight advantage to the Yellow Jackets, but we were able to get a lead going into the 1st intermission. The first half of the 2nd belonged to the Bobcats and Petruzelli was fantastic, making some huge saves to preserve the lead. The 3rd was fairly even and AIC threw everything they had at us over the last few minutes with the goalie pulled.

The power play looked good but they need to shoot more. Get pucks on net and hope for the rebounds.

Tomorrow night should be a tighter, more physical game.

The biggest thing is this is a real win because AIC should be a very good Atlantic Hockey team this year. That is a well coached team with some good talent. Really thought KP played well this game. Made some huge saves. The goals really weren't his fault. Really kept QU in this game at times especially in the 2nd period.

Pretty good effort for the opener, thought some of the freshmen looked dynamic. KP was fine, made some good saves, also had some moments where it just looked like he was a little unfocused. Still wouldn't be surprised to see him lose the starting role by the time we get to March.

I like the early returns so far -- this team has the potential to be really good again.

Just want to take a moment to note how nice it is to see AIC finally taking hockey seriously. When I was a student, they were the laughingstock of D-1 -- pretty much the worst team in college hockey every year, drawing less than 500 fans to home games, they just had no chance to compete. So it's really nice to see them on the upswing after what happened last year.

Nice sweep on the weekend. AIC is a good team too and those will probably end up being key wins at the end of the season.

Yes, gusty road win tonight. Down 2-0 early they could have mailed it in but they hung in and worked hard. I don't think the line combo's were working in the top half of the 1st. Everyone on the ice looked confused... Keystone Cops-like. Then Rand put Odeen, Banjo, and De jong back together and everything turned around. Even KP stepped up and kept his head in the game.

AIC is a very good team. They're big and fast but seem to be lacking slightly in the skill department. I think that was the difference tonight. They also seemed to tire early in the 2nd while we kept going (thanks Coach B!).

Lot's of positives to build off this weekend!

    Game day at the PUC!

Can't take Maine lightly (remember 2 yrs ago?). Their goalie can certainly steal games for them so we need to throw lots of rubber his way and take away his eyes.

I expect to see KP in net and he'll need to be at his best. Needs help from the D in front as well.

They need to play a solid game both ways and for the full 60 minutes.

I think this should be a real interesting litmus test to see how deep the Soph and Fresh have bought into and own the Rand systems. This could be an easy time for the kids to start getting stat focused and do it yourself sort of play, which could make for an interesting series. If they stick to the systems, and stay team focused vs individual focused this should be a fairly dominating weekend. Yet kids are kids and time will tell.

I think Maine is a truly bad team. They are more like the team that got smoked against Providence and New Brunswick than the one that swept Alaska Anchorage last weekend. They are bad with very little talent. Swayman is really their only saving grace.

Maine needs to stay out of the penalty box to have a chance at winning. They haven't done that in recent years. If Quinnipiac is quicker that will present problems for Maine. Swayman in goal certainly gives Maine a chance to win when he gets a little help defensively.

Ugly Ugly hockey. Out of sync defensively, pure chaos in front of KP for most of the night. Don’t think we can hang this on Keith, but after the keystone cops show in front of him all night, I wonder if he gets a night off tomorrow. Credit to Swayman for squaring up all night, especially at the end when QU found a little life. A lot of pucks seemed to find his gut. Tomorrow is probably a must have W.

    Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

Nah... Maine came to play and we didn't. Swayman was good but I think we let that one get away. Petruzelli let in a couple of soft goals that were ultimately the difference.

Yet another disjointed start by the Bobcats. They seemed to come alive in the 2nd and probably out played Maine but they needed that to continue in the 3rd but it didn't. The effort was there but the execution wasn't. Not sure if it's our youth or something else.

My guess is we'll see Fear in net tomorrow since KP wasn't on his game tonight.

    Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

The defenseman really showed their inexperience tonight, IMO. They had really poor spacing and were not rotating and picking up the backside. This is what we are going to get with a young team. A questionable result at times as they continue to gain experience. Not different from other years with a young d core except that we are used to the goalie bailing us out. Would have liked to see Petruzelli bail us out at times but tough to ultimately fault him - just a wish.

Btw, what is with the PUC replay people? Is it a bunch of students or something? I mean could we at least get one replay of the questionable no-goal? I love Connecticut Orthopedic Specialists and all but just put up what we ALL wanted to see. Frustrating.

barely caught much of the game tonight and missed last evening, also while watching yankee game. I may be reading it wrong, but I was not impressed at all with the Bobcats 3rd period play (all I saw!) but, they won. I saw Karlis put someone on their backside but the noise in front of KP has to be cleared out and I do not see any enforcers out there.

    Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

It was a better effort than last night but still a long way to go. If Maine starts Swayman tonight I think we get swept. Luckily, we put a 3-spot on a rookie goalie making his first start and were able to cling to a lead in the 3rd.

Defense needs something... to many men left out front, trouble clearing pucks, etc. I'm curious as to why we haven't seen Beaudreau yet... thought he was somewhat solid last season. Jayden Lee is good and has potential to be great but his diminutive size was taken advantage of all weekend.

Offense seems to still be searching for it's legs. Flashes of brilliance but nothing ongoing. Need bodies in front but saw little of that this weekend. They were better tonight but again, more work is needed.

All in all probably lucky to get the split. Maine was far better than I thought they'd be and we simply weren't as good as we needed to be.
