Either yanked a kid's money outright or told them they wouldn't get any more scholarship money despite playing really well. Verbal agreements are basically so other schools are supposed to back off that the kid has made his decision. The idea is they have a spot on the team but if they find a better player or you don't develop as planned they push you to juniors for more years before eventually just saying sorry no dice while still giving the kid a chance to play his way into landing somewhere else. So yeah a new coach can say to any kid go look in another direction especially those with nothing binding. Also, if there is a coaching change about half those kids who are slated to be here 2-3 years from now will all probably reneg on their commitment anyway. System isn't really equitable it's why more athletes are fighting back against some of the BS and good for them.
    Thanks for the explanation.

And in news among schools that take winning seriously, Florida State fired second-year football coach Willie Taggart yesterday. According to the article, "Taggart was 9-12 at Florida State, which won the national title in 2013 and has been in a freefall for the last three seasons. The Seminoles have not been ranked this season, are 0-5 against rivals Miami, Florida and Clemson under Taggart and attendance for games at Doak Campbell Stadium has plummeted."

Hmmm, being in a freefall, no national ranking, poor play against conference rivals, plummeting attendance....? This sounds vaguely familiar. FSU fires him DURING HIS SECOND SEASON, don't know what it will take for UVM to fire Sneddy.

Exactly. The path is clear for anyone in the administration who values athletic competitiveness in what was once the flagship program of the athletic department. Fire Sneddon. Beg Becker to extend for as many years as heís willing. Thatís a serious and competent coach.
    PS
Anyone else ever seen the Sneddon/Schulman debacle at Buffalo Wild Wings? These people are not serious.

I'm going to assume it has to do with the two of them overindulging in alcohol? They've been seen at Spot on the Dock, The Pour House, Church Street Tavern and plenty of other places plastered. I know I'm not the only one here who has seen Sneddon and his girlfriend acting embarrassingly sloppy drunk at Spot on the Dock over the last couple of years. Guy is entitled to a personal life but it's pretty annoying as someone who supports the school to see a coach and AD act this way out in public.

Is it time to start looking at Schulman?

    Makes perfect sense to me.

The FSU buyout was privately funded, which is fine, but throwing good money after bad is what Maine did with Whitehead, and look where that has gotten them.

When can a coach not take away a student-athlete's scholarship?

Anyone who gets out at all in Burlington has seen Sneddon over-indulging over the years. Never seen him with Schulman.

As far as Schulman, an interesting cat (no pun intended) from what I have observed. He hung around for years in the department, first when he was making peanuts in a bare-bones operation, then as second fiddle to the autocratic Corran, who did some good things, but led a somewhat dysfunctional, back-stabbing group with a lot of skeletons (Brennan, Agel, Dawley, etc). He was the good cop that smoothed things when Corran ruffled some feathers. So I think he has allegiance to some of the coaches, specifically Sneddon. But now he’s the top cat, so has to make some tough calls. He is well aware of the apathy and dwindling attendance at the hockey games. His legacy is getting the new Arena done. On the hockey side, hopefully the Gut renovations is truly “transformational” and not just a glorified paint job, and he needs to get the program back on track.

Am I reading the statistics correctly that so far this year we have 20 power play opportunities and ZERO power play goals?

To the untrained eye UVM's power play and penalty kill are indistinguishable

Anyone see the Cats winning a game this weekend? I don't. Game 1: BC 4 UVM 1; Game 2: BC 4 UVM 2

Until Sneddon is gone no one will care. Time for a change. Until then I watch the Rangers.

The program is an absolute disgrace. Just let him go right now and name an interim coach to finish out the season.

    Agree 100%.

What is telling for me is the body language of the head coach in the final minute of the game last night. I was walking out behind the benches and while I was passing the UVM bench leaving I noticed the head coach (Kevin Sneddon only) with his arms folded, feet crossed leaning up against the back glass. The game was over at that point but please do us all a favor and send this guy packing and hire someone who gives 2 ****s about the program. This is not on the kids, it's on the administration to do what is right. The coach has given up on this team in mid November. Make the change right now please.

Another game where the underclassman outperformed the upperclassman on the ice. At this point I am going to the games to watch hockey: BC played really well. I would love to see Sneddon gone at the break and bring in Jerry Tarrant as the interim coach to finish out the season. Really wish UVM has hired Dom Ducharme a couple years ago instead of renewing Sneddon.

    Couple game notes:
Defense: Force the play at the blue line. STOP BACKING IN ON LEKKAS.
Offense: Drive to the net. Stop carrying the puck behind the net. Reverse direction if you need space or don't have an angle. Much better job taking the shot when it was there instead of passing.
PP Unit - Do not dump the puck into the offensive zone when you are on the power play. EVER!
