  • LSSU Lakers 2019-20

The new season is getting close so it's a good time to start a thread for it.

Anyone been to any captain's practices and can let us know how the new guys look?

I hope to make it up to the Soo for the opening series against Merrimack.

Saccoman and Humitz (no surprise) named captains. Kaelble and McKay named assistant captains.

The Lakers have received a commitment from another recruit for the future, 02 birth date D-man Grant Hindman, a Michigan kid currently playing for Janesville of the NAHL.

I think the Lakers can have another solid season if they stay healthy. They can't afford injuries especially to the upperclassmen.

Anyone had the opportunity to see any of the team's practices? I'm curious as to how the freshman look and while I agree that the upperclassmen will be integral to their success, the underclassmen will have to shoulder a lot of the weight as well.

First Laker Hockey Show of the season should be this week. I think it will be on Tuesdays again although I'm not positive, Could possibly be Monday.

The Lakers toughest test to start the season is not going to be against Denver or Michigan or Notre Dame but against Merrimack. Merrimack has been picked to finish last in their conference and I am sure in the power rankings they will be near the bottom . If Merrimack beats the Lakers on their home ice , that will be a bigger defeat then losing to the teams I just mentioned. The Lakers cannot allow a team like Merrimack to come in and take a win on their home ice.

Just bought the TV package again this year. Lots of intriguing games early. Borek's return to Sault Ste. Marie, a good NCHC program in Denver on the schedule, Michigan, and Jeff Jackson's Notre Dame. That's a fun schedule to start out with that will help the Lakers grow into November when WCHA action starts up. I won't be discouraged if we take some lumps early against Denver, Michigan, and Notre Dame if we can start out hot in November.

And I kindly disagree that Merrimack is our toughest test early. Borek is their coach after all. He's not good. He has 47 losses in his last 2 seasons coaching D1 hockey. That's about as bad as it gets. Even the second-stint Anzalone didn't lose that many games in his last 2 years.

What i mean is if the Lakers were to lose to Merrimack ,it may signal a long season . There is noway Merrimack should win a game against the Lakers on their home ice with the rankings that Merrimack has been given this year in their conference . If the Lakers cannot beat their first test in Merrimack ,that would be a shocker .
