Armed services were granted the exception that they were considered residing in the US while deployed. It only applies if both parents are not in the US.

So if one is a citizen and residing in the US, they are still granted an exception. As I read it.

Are not military bases overseas considered American soil?

                  No, they are not.

Many parents of children born abroad want to know if their children are U.S. citizens. The U.S. grants citizenship in one of three ways: naturalization, in which someone becomes a U.S. citizen sometime after birth; birth on U.S. soil; or birth to parents who are U.S. citizens. Contrary to popular belief, military bases are not considered "U.S. soil" for citizenship purposes. Therefore, the only way children born abroad can acquire citizenship at birth is through their parents.
If it was the contrary a foreign woman could give birth on a base and create a US citizen.

                    They sort of never were.

The updated policy directly impacts US government employees and service members, many of whom are temporarily assigned to posts overseas for extended periods. The policy says children living abroad with a parent who is a US government employee or US service member will not be considered to be " 'residing in the United States' for purposes of acquiring citizenship" under a section of immigration law.

Previously, their children would be considered to be both living in and outside of the US for purposes of eventually gaining citizenship. By stripping the children of the former, the only way they can get citizenship is through a parent applying for them, whereas before it would've been automatic provided they meet certain requirements, said Cristobal Ramon, senior policy analyst at the Bipartisan Policy Center.

USCIS says the policy could affect children of lawful permanent residents who naturalized after a child's birth.

The agency cited conflicts with the definition of "residence" in immigration law, as well as conflicts with State Department guidance, as reason for the change, according to the guidance.
I read someplace that last year it would have affected 100 children. The parents can still file for the child's citizenship running through the fact that they are naturalized citizens.

The question is: why do this? Is it just another in this administration's series of highly public dick moves to demonstrate to their hateful moron voters the only people they consider real citizens are white Christian Dumpy males? Because that's sure how it comes across.

For any other admin, this would just be viewed as clarifying language and streamlining the laws. Simply it and make it fair.

But with this admin, you have to view every move as malicious and prove it isn’t.

Has anyone seen what prompted them to perpetrate this fiasco? I can find coverage from all sorts of sources but nothing on what made them want to say stuff that should p1ss off one of the populations that have some happy feeling about the Admin (they like he is funding their budget- altho he is cutting that as well)

                              This.

Southern planters after the Civil War kept their white sharecroppers in line by stoking racism and creating the KKK. Divide and conquer. Always give your wage slaves somebody to kick and look down on. That's how the reactionary mind functions.
