Edit: He still could be on the team since the numbers listed in today's box score don't agree with the roster. He is a known quantity. Or he could be injured.

      Re: RPI Recruit Thread 2019-20

It's been seemingly forever since we've had a commit (almost 5 months). Getting a bit antsy and restless waiting for the season to start and this certainly doesn't help

With that being said, I'm going to write a recruiting preview for the upcoming season.

We have 8 seniors total, 5 forwards and 3 defensemen. However, it is possible Todd Burgess could return for another season since he missed his entire freshman year with an injury.
      Forwards
At forward, we'll return 5 lefties and 6-7 righties (depending on Burgess)
Definitely coming in: RW James McIsaac
McIsaac will age out of juniors this season and has to come in.
All but guaranteed to come in: C John Beaton, (LW Christian Sarlo)
Beaton is already in the RPI directory and appears to be a very skilled player, even being ranked by NHL Central Scouting for the 2019 NHL Draft. I'd put a lot of money on him being a part of the Class of 2024. Sarlo is allegedly decommitted, and I think he is a goner. But if he's not, I think he's pretty much guaranteed to come in as well.
Maybe coming in: C Eric Fawkes, LW Jack Brackett
Fawkes will be interesting to watch as he didn't make the roster of either USHL team he tried out for and hasn't been listed on any roster so far. We don't really know where he will be yet. He had solid stats in the MJHL last season, but nothing spectacular for a mediocre league. This year will be very important for whether or not he enrolls in 2020.
Brackett had a very good season in the NCDC last year. He has moved up to the BCHL this season and has had a very good preseason it seems. I think he is more likely to come in than Fawkes given his league and better play last season. If Brackett has a good year, I think he's coming in.
Unlikely to come in: C Reid Leibold, RW Max Itagaki
Both are in their draft years playing in the NAHL. Unless either were to have a phenomenal year, I don't forsee either coming in.
Prediction: McIsaac, Beaton, Brackett and an 00 or 01 forward commits during the season and comes in

      Defensemen
At defensemen, we return 4 lefties and 3 righties.
      Definitely coming in: No one
All but guaranteed to come in: LD Dylan Davies
Davies is playing for Omaha in the USHL this season after playing in the NAHL with Austin last season. After signing an NLI last season and showing up in the directory in the spring, he is pretty much guaranteed to be in the Class of 2024. Davies is a big bodied defensemen who is also mobile with a long reach and should be a good addition.
      Maybe coming in: No one
Unlikely to come in: LD Hunter McDonald
McDonald is playing in his draft year in the NCDC. With Davies very likely to come in and giving us 5 lefties to only 3 righties, I doubt McDonald would come in right after his draft year even if he had an outstanding season.
Prediction: Davies comes in and we get 2 RD to commit. We need a defenseman with 2-way skills with the loss of Reilly and Bear, and I expect them to work hard to get one. Beyond that, they may just want to get a depth piece at RD to fill that last spot.

      Goalies
We are not losing any goaltenders, but have one committed that needs to come in. That means that they expect one of them to leave via transfer or the pros or they'll just carry a 4th one for a season until Marshall and Calvaruso graduate.
Definitely coming in: G Brett Miller
Miller is playing for Fargo in the USHL this season and must come in as he will age out of juniors.
Prediction: Miller comes in, and they carry 4 G's for a season and commit only 2 defensemen instead of 3.

In summary, if Brackett and/or Fawkes do not have good seasons, I'd expect a forward commit or two to come in next fall. If both play well and appear ready, it's possible we will only see forward commits that are young and won't come in until 2021. I also expect one or two RD that have a 2 way game to come in next fall. If we get a goaltender commit, it will be a young one for the future. Note this is just my personal prediction, and in all likelihood, I'll be wrong

On Wednesday, the Winkler Flyers defeated the Virden Oil Capitals 9-2 in a preseason game. Eric Fawkes did not dress. I am assuming that he is still there. https://www.mjhlhockey.ca/stats/game-summary/4001

Fawkes's preseason line is now 0-0-0-0-0.

That was my thought too. My main concern was that his number was being used, but they probably don't have many extra uniforms.

I do think that Burgess won't be coming back which means we need 5 forwards to keep the current number.

Just a thought but it’s possible, hopefully not, that the Admin. has become disillusioned with the 4 (prob. 5) de-commits. All were young ATT of their commit. Possible they see that as a waste of money by the Staff & have told DS to either go older or you’ld better be 100% sure.
Brandon Pirri: Turk would give it to Jagr. That's awesome! Jagr's untouchable. And he would give it to Jagr.

There is also the possibility that this is a consequence of the age where one can make initial contact.

I think that we are OK at this point as far as next season is concerned. As sezenack laid out, we don't need that much more for 2020. As far as 2021 is concerned, we won't need much at all, as out junior class is almost nonexistent besides for in goal, just Jerry.

The years the men's recruits are listed as committed for are not necessarily accurate.
The dates on which some of the women are listed as committing on may be considerably after the actual dates.
I am assuming that Neutral Zone regards their Star ratings as public because they tweet them with committals.

There are a few other players with RPI commitment designations on that NAHL commitment list link that won't work (sorry!), who aren't on your master list. I'm not close enough to know whether it's a new commitment, or old news/a decommitment, or simply a mistake:

I was just going to say that. The problem is that you have to change all https to http for NAHL. USCHO changes everything to https even if it doesn't work.

I will get on with more updates now.
