The new Yale coach has a freshman from the USA U18 team who is leading their team in points and a relatively strong sophomore class that led the team last year in points. I'd say he's ok when it comes to what he's inherited. All RPI had was an All-American caliber goaltender and now they don't.
Some coaches inherit potential, and some coaches inherit a mess. RPI was a mess that was covered up by stellar goaltending and now that she's gone, it's coming to light. Either Vines is going to adjust and bring in players that can get the job done or he's not. I just don't see how you can judge him poorly, or the Yale coach highly, until they are coaching players that they made the decision to bring to their program.
