The only reason that's not true out east is because I-95 is bumper to bumper for about 300 miles straight. Sucks to be you.

Fair point. Seeing the posted limits of 80 in NV made me need to consult my physician. I hear they are 85 in TX.

Once upon a time (before my driving) they had no posted limit highways in ID, WY, and MT. Bring them back.

I think Montana still has some highways without posted limits.

I’m still mad that my cousin and I got a speeding ticket on I90 in Montana. Trooper said they only care about speed limits when it’s dark

To be fair if you were going 100 in the dark you should probably have gone to jail. :-)

Also, "no posted limited" does not mean no limit. It means the cops can ring you up for anything they regard as excessive given the conditions, in the same way that they can cite you for reckless driving if you are driving 60 in a 60 in the rain.

In an 80? That's bogus. In a 70? I'd warn you. In a 60? Yeah, that's a ticket, but I'd clock you down so you didn't get reckless. In a 50? No mercy.

Some guy in the 90's wrecked the Montana fun, didn't he? Argued a citation written for 85 mph and the court decided that the current law was "unconstitutionally vague" or some crap.

He probably read the rule wrong. It's supposed to say "if you are dark"

I did 125 on a large rural highway in the dark.

You sure as hell aren’t doing it during the day. Too many cars.

If there are too many cars during the day, then it's not rural enough of a stretch of highway.

Also, speed limits are posted in Montana and Texas because the US Government handcuffed those states by forcing them to have actual speed limits to receive federal highway funding. And that sweet, sweet highway money isn't growing on trees in either of those states.

But I thought they could pull themselves up by the bootstraps! Texas is seceding, isn't it?

I would never do that in the dark.

While I don't speed in general (more than 5mph over the limit), there is one time a year I speed like crazy, and that's in the UP (for those in the know, after Bruce Crossing and before Houghton).

There are two stretches of road (note: immediately after you make the right turns at the two Ts in the road) that are really straight and flat
There has to be perfect weather (and this includes it being daytime)
If there is ANY vehicle that I don't recognize (since we often caravan) I don't speed.

I got to about 115 before those requirements weren't met, and was "cruising" at about 90-95 for the most part
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

Well then I'd say actually getting the ticket was really your fault if you catch my drift.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ especially considering the area I admit speeding in. Lots of deer out that way. The roads are top-notch, MI takes good care of those stretches.
