If we design a system where people pay $1 extra in tax and realize $1M savings on their health care bills, the GOP will scream about raised taxes and we will lose. Rover is correct about that part. The lesson of the GOP's spectacular rape of the middle class is that optics is more important to lofo voters than substance. When we correct the policy we are still going to have to deliver good optics and that means we cut everybody below $1M by a pittance to claim we do it, and then we soak the f-cking fascist Plutes above it until we claw back every penny they've stolen, with interest.
Finally somebody gets it. You can't claim that you stand for the little guy who's been getting screwed for the last 40 years, and then turn around and raise their taxes. Let the rich fund the health care for the "poors" and everybody else who's not rich. The Goopers will have a field day, with ominous warning about what other tax increases are coming, while the sheep like media will give that scare tactic gold plated coverage.

Pretty much agree with this. It was odd hearing some of the field criticizing Obama in the last debate.

But that is kinda what it sounded like in the last debate... I mean, Biden had to defend Obama for deporting undocumented / illegal immigrants who had committed other offenses. Whatever they wan't they aren't conveying it well to the general public.

What message do you think they are sending or want?

When somebody says "open borders" you know they aren't engaging seriously, they're just trying to win a point in front of the lofos.

Obama's record came into question for deporting record amounts of illegals and building all of the infrastructure that ICE uses to terrorize immigrants today. Biden doesn't get to be on both sides where he's completely powerless when it comes to the bad parts of Obama's record but also entirely responsible for all of his success.

So then what is the message of the "farther left" end of the party if they are criticizing the "centrists" for deportations?

                  Why do you say that?

I've advocated in Cafe multiple times for open borders. I think our immigration policy is silly. You want to come here, welcome. But you'll have to abide by our laws, find a job, pay taxes, etc... If you want a say in how things are run, however, you'll have to go through the steps of becoming a citizen.

There seems to be this fear, even from your side, that open borders will crush our welfare infrastructure. That hasn't been my experience at all. I've had lots of dealings with people who have come here illegally, most from latin america, and all any of them want to do is find a job, make some money and feed their families. Furthermore, when the recession hit a decade ago, many of them returned to their native country. The weather was better, they had the support structure of their families and the financial incentives to stay just weren't that great.

We're all just animals on the savanna looking for the better watering hole.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

Kep, YOU are the source of the open borders comment. You're a lefty. You want to see the party come to you. If I'm not mistaken you've said everybody who makes it here should be welcomed in, no?

This article gives a bit more insight about decriminalizing border crossings:

I want people who break an administrative guideline to have administrative penalties imposed on them. That means a citation with a fine or a court appearance to contest. A traffic ticket.

Bernie Sanders has laid out an ambitious 10-year, $16.3tn national mobilization to avert climate catastrophe, warning that the US risks losing $34.5tn in economic productivity by the end of the century if it does not respond with the urgency the threat demands.
I love it when a plan comes together.

My assumption: Insley endorses Bernie if/when he needs it. Insley gets his first choice of Energy or EPA in a Sanders administration.
