  • Re: Movie Thread #50: Godzilla gives us permission to nuke our enemies

    Stand Off:
Carter (Thomas Jane), a troubled veteran, gets a chance at redemption by protecting a 12-year-old girl from an assassin (Laurence Fishburne) after she witnesses a murder. Holding a shotgun with a single shell, he engages in physical and psychological warfare in a desperate fight for the girl's life

Cliched, cookie cutter, etc. Still not bad, though, if you want to kill some time. Some nice tricks I hadn't seen before, but overall, just a meh movie. However, Laurence ...I kinda had to see it.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

Perfectos Desconocidos- Mexican version of the perfect stranger movie. Apparently there are like 16 of these in different countries. Anyway. Premise is old friends get together for a dinner party- 3 couples and one guy. They all put their phones in middle of table and have to read every text that comes in and answer phones in front of everyone . It does not go well.
Overall pretty good. I’ve heard the Italian version is good.
      Subtitled, FYI.

Watched Free Solo tonight. As soon as the movie ended all my girlfriend and I could do was hug. That was amazing and totally f-cked at the same time. That fear is even more impressive than I had originally took it for.

Rocketman >>>>>>> Bohemian Rhapsody! Better film, more accurate story and everyone actually sings. Oh and they don't make everything bad in Eltons life be because he is gay.

Handy saying that movie made Freddie being the gay the cause of all "bad" stuff

Not everything, but quite a bit. They treated his girlfriend with way more respect than they did his being gay. Rocketman treats it much better while still playing on similar tropes. (the evil manager taking advantage)

If Freddy was still alive BR is a much different film.

If mookie had to guess it was alcohol++.

Heck the climatic scene where Freddie took the friend " " to lunch before LA and had the reconciliation couldn't have been a more uplifting conclusion...and that was with a gay - playing right into an potential family objection. Iced that cake with the father saying now proud he was.....

That was the only positive gay scene in the film. (and yes it was a good one though it is completely a lie) I didnt just come to this on my own there are articles out there about it.

It doesnt matter BR made a bajillion dollars I just think Rocketman is the better film and that is just one of the reasons. YMMV.

It's Rocky IV.II. Simple as that. Still entertaining, still worth a watch.
