@Eloraillere: Father Fournier, chaplain of the @PompiersParis (Paris Firefighters), went with firefighters in the cathedral #NotreDame to save the crown of thorns and the Blessed Sacrament ...
I certainly hope they were successful in that.

Also, weren't there a few people buried there as well? Sad that their eternal slumber be disrupted.

          I am deeply envious.

I have heard you can still start out 30 miles outside of town in the farms and walk towards it, and watch as the towers and roof march up from the horizon -- as if you were back in 1200.

If you have ever taken the interstate thru Worcester, there is (soon to be was) a beautiful church on the east side (the arena is on the other side). The Diocese is selling the church for whatever motives the bishop has.

OTOH, the late Cardinal Keeler renovated the Baltimore Basilica back to where it was ~100+ years ago. The acoustics are magnificent and the interior is inspiring.

That is exactly what happened in Calumet. Mining industry went kaput so the towns followed suit. I don't know if some are still open, and I'd like to find out one of these days, just to see the artwork/architecture inside. It's not cookie-cutter, it's friggin' art to me.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

I can disagree with none of this and it was one of my favorite stops during our December road trio trip across France, Luxembourg, & Belgium. It's truly amazing. We drove in from the south but looking back as we were heading north it was even more impressive. It is in the process of being renovated (pray, cross your fingers, drink your favorite beer in hopes it stays safe ) and it's truly amazing to see the brilliant white marble columns and choir screen in its original form.

The Cathedral in Reims is amazing, too. Significant number of French monarchs were crowned at this Cathedral.

Last one that stood out to me was Rouen which was magnificent. This was also under going renovation so cross your toes...

There are churches like this all through western rural Austria. They all have those wonderful churchyards:
