In the Gulf? Not that unusual. However, this one is more NHC playing games trying to verify their preseason forecast.

At 8am, it was an area of disturbed weather with a 30% chance of becoming a named system before landfall.
At 11:45am, it was still an area of disturbed weather that "might" become a tropical depression before landfall.
At 1:00pm, it was Tropical Depression 11, with landfall expected in the next hour
At 1:45pm, it was Tropical Storm Imelda
      At 2:30pm, it was inland.

It went from just a 30% chance of even developing to a Tropical Storm in under 6 hours. Either whomever was on the morning shift at NHC really blew it big time, or more likely, they got a report of strong winds in the middle of a thunderstorm on the coast and upgraded it based on 1 or two observations.

Good to know that I am not alone in thinking that sometimes NHC has given names to storms which would have been ignored years ago.

It pops up on my aggregator (aggrevator?). Some of it is so far out that it's fun.

Plus every once in a while it's fun to tweak you noses.

Sorry, but no self respecting aggregator uses lulz.com or themostimportantnews.com unless the aggregator is setup that way by you. Or your aggregator is your uncle Bort who sends you chain emails.

Use Google News. Or yahoo. Or just the front page of cnn. Or the front page of the NYT, WaPo, literally anything more than you have heard of.

FrontPageLive seems to be a new kid on the block.
