          Happy ending, though. Boston lost.

Angel Hernandez is frighteningly bad at being an umpire. The protest will fail, as it likely should, but good lord Hernandez stinks.

Exactly. Despite the screw up, technically no rule was broken, so the protest will fail.

They are supposed to be graded. Apparently it's like Harvard, though. All A's no matter how bad you are.

The way I saw it --
the minute Kolarik moved to 1B, Tampa lost the DH. Kolarik would bat in the DHs spot in the lineup.

RP Moe would bat where the 1B batted (essentially a double switch).

When Kolarik came back in, the new 1B would bat where Moe was, or the batting position of the original 1B.

I didn't say it wasn't rigged. I said half the students are amazing and the other half are Upper Class Twits of the Year.

The latter are why Harvard has its straight A policy. Can't have Muffy's path to daddy's law firm interrupted. The former don't need it and are as disgusted as we are. I'm sure moreso since it degrades their degree and I'm sure they hated intermingling with the Plutes' slack-jawed offspring.

But it doesn't matter how you see it. :-)

The rules as I understand them (which could be doubtful) state the manager can decide, and must tell the umpire, who the player is replacing and thus what order they bat. Just because the pitcher replaces the 1B doesn't mean he has to bat in the 1B spot or has to assume the DH role, if more than one substitution is being made.

Apparently, Cash never told the umpire what he wanted, so then it's up to the umpire to decide who replaced whom and what order they bat in.

I agree with your logic if you were the umpire who had to make that call. But the manager doesn't have to play it like that if he didn't want to. He just has to tell the umpire how he wants it (though, of course, the DH is lost no matter what).

Since mediocre would be an improvement for the Tigers, I'm going to hate-watch the rest of the season because I don't want to hitch my wagon to another team. If I'm going to do this, what are some things I should look forward to?
