My guess is 1000 pitches, so let's say 250 AB. You might make contact with 100 of those pitches, and you might put 30 of them fair. Almost all of those would be weak pops or pathetic grounders. So, maybe 5 times you'd have good contact, and 1 of those might go where they aint.

In Little League I had to face 2 guys who went on to the minors. It was utterly impossible to hit them because their speed was terrifying to a non-athlete -- there was nothing you could do with anything remotely inside but bail; your brain would say, "OK, that'll be enough of that." So not only were you out of the picture for roughly half the strikes, but the other half your timing was destroyed.

Royals being losers of 10 in-a-row prior to this series, sweep the Indians.

Growing up there was a pitching machine at the local entertainment complex that allegedly threw 93. My softball-playing dad tried it just to see if he could hack it and he couldn't even react in time to swing the bat.

We had one that threw 85 or so. You basically swung the bat and hoped. ONE of us dared to try, he made contact on one of 15 pitches. Just making contact was a win in our books. He honestly just swung and hoped, as soon as he saw the ball.

The Twins are in talks for him right now. Think he has potential.

                      Baseball is beautifully weird.

and a catcher. Though I think the ump got it on the shoulder.

A's end the Astros 10 game win streak in a hell of a baseball game 2-1. A's pitchers pitched really well. The addition of the quickpitch and splitter to Montas's arsenal are really paying dividends
