In a weird way that works against him (factoring out increased potential for walks) - every pitcher he sees is going to bring their best stuff because they don't want to be the one.

Lee's Pint & Shell in Baltimore: two hours of open bar tonight if Chris Davis gets a hit.

When I was in college in the mid 80s, Dunbar's in Ithaca had 5 minutes of open bar every time Darryl Strawberry hit a homerun.

In Seattle, ump takes a K-WP fastball hat crosses up the catcher to the collarbone, collapses in agony, and with the runner scoring all the way from 2nd on the WP the ump struggles up and manages to position himself correctly and make the call despite yelling in pain.

If you get the chance watch the replay with sound. The ball coming off the bone sounds like a sharp foul ball. I'm shocked it didn't break his collarbone.

Malex Smith's trip around the bases that inning:

Reaches first on that swinging third strike that hits the ump
Steals second and is nearly decapitated by the catcher's throw
Is struck by a pick-off from the pitcher but stunned so can't advance
Next pick-off sails over his and the shortstop's head allowing him to take third
Home on a grounder to the right side

Edit: Davis PH with 2 out in the ninth; bar goes nuts as he hits a line drive... which is caught.

That same bar gave free shots last year whenever Davis got a hit.

          Yikes.

Two run single in the first and wants the baseball.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

What was the final count? 51?
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

I wonder how many at bats it would take the average person to get a hit against major league pitching. 100? 200? more? 0-54 is certainly crazy, but I wouldn't be surprised if it took me 54 at bats just to make contact against big leaguers

It's a good question. 54 ABs.....an AB has an infinite number of pitches possible (due to fouling off the ball). What's the average AB in the majors? 4 pitches? 5? You would think that just by swinging the bat the Average Joe could make contact of some sort at some point. Whether or not it's a hit is another matter. Even then, just the odds of getting lucky and getting a random hit has to be better than 54 total ABs w/o a hit...

A schmoe off the street would have 1 advantage in trying to get a hit. The pitcher would likely not try to hit corners.

So you are going to see strikes. You just need to catch up and hope to barrel one.
