Yes there are racial inequities, but those are better solved in other ways. If you want to call affirmative action ‘reparations’ then fine. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

If we're to go back 150 years to right the wrongs of the past, are we going to give money to the descendants of probably 1M or more children who grew up without fathers who died fighting to end slavery in the Civil War (I'm basing this on 300K+ union deaths and people having relatively large families back then)? I can't imagine it was easy being in that situation especially in the 1860's. Seems hypocritical to compensate one group and not the other. You'd also have to really nail down the genealogy on this as well.

Paying reparations to the descendants of slaves is a generous impulse, but... stupid. You can't find a person who isn't a descendant of slaves. Even in the US, they were of every race. Good luck finding all the records and proving lineage to determine who needs to write a check, and to whom. As for me, while partly of African descent, my ancestors didn't get here until the 1920s. I'm not writing a check on behalf of Jeff Davis.
The only reasonably possible way to address the issue is to make massive national investments into areas that are primarily African-American. Infrastructure, job training, etc. That way everyone benefits and you don't need to spend 40 years determining geneology percentages in court.
I'm actually more inclined to pay reparations to Native Americans, and give the Dakotas and Texas to the tribes so they can run the oil business as they see fit. I'll throw in California too, if they'll take it.
