Freshman defender Mallory Uihlein was named the CHA Rookie of the Week for the second time this season:

RIT does not get much coverage, but I just counted 12 frosh on the team. And it looks like a goalie controversy after Terra L played a ton last year. O'Leary got the start against Colgate and stopped 34 out of 36.

Penn State took 4-5 last year, but it evidently is a much different team.

Penn State's D and goaltending look solid even without Brenneman and Adolffson. Maybe Adolffson plays this weekend?

Penn State takes on RIT this weekend in a Friday/Saturday matchup at home. Friday's game is at 6:00 (Eastern) and Saturday's game is at 3:00 (Eastern). RIT is coming off a ten-day break and should show up rested and ready to play.

In a comparison against their two common opponents so far, RIT tied Vermont 4-4 and lost 3-1, and Penn State shut Vermont out 4-0. RIT beat Syracuse 7-4 and lost 3-0, and Penn State lost to Syracuse 3-1 and tied 1-1. There are no real surprises in RIT's record - they've lost to who they should've lost to, and beat most of who they should've beat. The anomaly is that 7-4 road win against Syracuse, but that included two RIT empty-netters, so take that as you will. Still, they put five clean goals up against them.

I think the biggest surprise is not seeing RIT goalie Terra Lanteigne getting all the starts. She has split even time with Jessi O'Leary, who played a grand total of just under ten minutes all of last season. O'Leary has a 2.65 GAA to Lanteigne's 2.86.

Team stats between RIT and Penn State are really close, so this could be a tight series, but Penn State needs to start taking these CHA points before they get lost too far back in the pack. Right now in conference points, RIT is a point up on Penn State. Syracuse is four points up on Penn State, so if Lindenwood can sweep Syracuse this weekend and Penn State can sweep RIT, Penn State and Syracuse will be tied for third in the CHA. That would be a really good place to jump off into the holiday break.

Lindenwood just forfeited a game in St Cloud with both goalies hurt. At a school that size and its location, who even knows if there is another goalie on campus if their goalies can't suit up.

Apparently all three of Lindenwood's goalies were out with injuries. Lindsay had a good read on it:

"Wolf got injured mid October vs Union, traveled to Clarkson and was on the boxscores the next week but did not play. She hasn’t dressed for a game since, so Asplundh took over. Asplundh got injured mid November it looks like, and dressed yesterday but Hennessy played the whole game. Today... game forfeited, presumably Hennessy got injured yesterday. Wow. I wonder when they’ll have a game ready goalie again."

I've never seen a school run out of goalies before. I wonder if it's legal to stuff any rostered player into goalie pads and throw her out there, if you have to.

Yes, you can dress a non goalie, and I think you can even in the middle of the game. Very hard to do as you would need goalie skates that fit.

I think it is very interesting that Cornell, RIT and Penn State have had girls that were clearly the backup last year, come in and do a nice job.

Penn State better focus on their own schedule, rather than hope from Lindenwood considering their goalie situation.

It's very legal. I can't believe nobody else on their roster wouldn't have had some goaltending experience or general athletic ability to give it a try, which would have been much better than just giving the game away by forfeit. That's the worst. We used to have fun with having non goalies suit up in goalie gear during practice from time to time just for the fun of it, like team building. It was also hilarious watching our goalies suit up in regular players' gear and playing out. I only remember one goalie ever being a half decent player compared to several players being decent playing goalie. And no, you do NOT need to wear goalie skates. Lol.

Now that's something I would love to see Penn State do, and put out a good video of it, too! Wait...Penn State putting out a good funny video...nahhhhhhhhhh, never gonna happen. But I'd still love to see it.

Freshman defender Mallory Uihlein (Edina, MN) has been named the CHA Rookie of the Month:

    https://gopsusports.com/news/2019/12...the-month.aspx

    https://chawomenshockey.com/news/201...the-month.aspx[/QUOTE]

    Jeff Kampersal on Uihlein:

“She plays with her head up, she’s a great skater, she understands what she’s doing out there, and I do think she’s deserving [of the Rookie of the Month title], not just from watching this past weekend but from an overall perspective. She’s a passer before she's a shooter, but she generates a lot of offense by getting the puck out quickly. She started a play against Vermont, which allowed Brooke Madsen to make a play. If we can continue to get her to make that happen, we’ll be very grateful for that.”

Thank you, Reddington! It's taken me forever to learn this camera and the settings that I think work best for hockey videos, but I'm finally at least more comfortable with it. Now all I need is another person or two with me, so I can watch the games and they can shoot video.

Penn State continues to have RIT's number.

Another shutout for Burke and Lanto and Uieleen's first goals. Heising scored on the pp. No Adolffson.

Lindenwood suited up a non goalie.

Adolfsson is out for the season (she was on crutches tonight). I'll post again in a little bit, when You Tube is done loading a video.

Penn State beat RIT 3-0 tonight on Chantal Burke's fourth shutout of the season, which ties her for first nationally in shutouts and also tied a single-season shutout record for the program. Freshmen Mikayla Lantto and Mallory Uihlein both got their first NCAA D-1 goals tonight, Uihlein's being a shorthanded goal. Natalie Heising scored a power play goal, which tied the all time program record.

Back at it tomorrow at 3:00 (Eastern).

Sophomore defender Jessica Adolfsson was on crutches after having surgery, and is out for the season.

Watched the game this morning and RIT could have been up two zero. 15 had a breakaway and someone almost scored point blank after a face off. PSU needs to tighten that up. Burke can't save everyone.

It's a shame on Adolffson. An end to a quiet season for her.

PSU needs the sweep and would set up a nice matchup to get back to .500 against UNH. UNH is having a solid year.

Re: 2019-20 Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State hammered RIT 6-2 today, with a five-goal third period, to take the weekend sweep. RIT used all three of their goalies, but it seemed like nothing was going to stop the goals from coming for Penn State in the third. Ten different players scored points for Penn State. Natalie Heising had two goals and an assist, Shea Nelson had a goal and two assists, and Katie McMillan, Amanda McLeod, and Anna Promersberger each had a goal.

The game was tied 1-1 after two periods, so the Penn State scoring blitz in the third came out of nowhere, but once they started they never let up. They beat RIT to pucks and just plain outhustled them.
