    Canada Winter Games

For those interested the Games start today but Women's Hockey is scheduled in week two of the two week event.

Many players who are household names to us today competed in the 2007 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Might be a chance to get a preview of many soon to be NCAA players as they make their final preparations for prime time.

(Of course, there are many other sports a well).

Are all of the rosters available somewhere? I saw a couple of them being posted (e.g., Ontario) a few months ago, but I have not seen them all.

Thought I saw them but, if so, I can't find them either.

There are links available for each individual team's roster by Ducking them but not a central CWG page...at least not yet. I'll post them if and when I come across them.

But I found this...near the bottom it has a section called "Athlete's to Watch"

    https://www.canadagames.ca/2019/site...hockey_eng.pdf

And there is this...a technical package with a section that might be of interest to some called "Hockey Canada National Women's Team Program Evaluation Criteria"...pages 32-38...

One of the Athletes to Watch is Manitoba goaltender Raygan Kirk:

    Here is Manitoba's roster...

    Man 2 - Sask 0 after one.

Manitoba with the advantage in play and 3 power plays.

Grace Shirley, younger sister of UW's Sophie Shirley, is on the Team Saskatchewan roster.

And, no, T-Cubed...this one is not my daughter either.

    Man 3 - Sask 0 after 2.

Sask with a never ending parade to the box has given Manitoba three 5 on 3's so far.

    Man 3 - Sask 0 final.

Kirk with the shut out for Manitoba and a few nice saves.

The story of this game was Saskatchewan's inability to stay out of the box and what seemed to me to be Manitoba's constantly stepping up to the window to cash in a good portion of their horseshoe supply...(thereby theoretically depleting whatever supply a team starts out with in a tournament like this).

The player that stood out for me was Messier for Saskatchewan. Quick skater, intense and she looked emotionally engaged throughout the game.

    BC 1 - Alberta 0 after one.

Nice short side wrist shot with a buck fifty-one left on the clock in the first.

Expecting a decent game since the powerhouses are usually Quebec, Ontario, BC and Alberta but there have been exceptions like Team Manitoba in 2007 which was star studded with many on that team moving on to play D1 and become familiar names.

    Re: Canada Winter Games

    BC 4 - Alberta 1 after two.

Having only had 6 SOG earlier on one would be inclined to think that BC had an offense problem. But since 4 of them found the back of the net the more pressing observation would be that Alberta has a goaltending problem, albeit on one of the goals there was lots of traffic in the crease.

Alberta tied in up about 2 minutes into the period but BC regained the lead less than a minute later having since scored 3 unanswered goals.

    BC 6 - Alberta 1 final.

BC dominated play but I don't think to the extent that the score would seem to indicate.

Just found this. It's a bit convoluted but it works. Select the team and the sport from their respective drop down boxes and hit find.

They should have all this on one page at a glance...unless it's hiding elsewhere.

Found it. Click on province abbreviation and roster for that team opens up.

According to their roster Team Yukon has:

    1 11 yr old WOW!!
    1 12 yr old Ditto!
    2 13 yr olds Ditto
5 14 yr olds although Carman McDonald was 14 when she competed at the CWG in 2007 and went on to play for St.Lawrence.
    4 15 yr olds

in what is essentially a 16 -17 yr old tournament.

Proving that this is the antithesis of why Quebec, Ontario, BC and Alberta usually have the strongest teams.

Thanks, The schedule also makes it clear that some of the teams aren't expected to go anywhere.
    NWT has a 12- and 2 13-year olds also.

Yeah, that's always the case with the North and the Maritime provinces strictly due to demographics...(it's just numbers) which is what I meant when I mentioned that it is usually Que, Ont, Ab and BC who take the Medals because they have the largest gene pools..with Man and Sask behind them. So it's the 6 provinces linked east to west that are always in the running...the rest, unfortunately, are also rans...barring any incredible miracle.

    Scoreless after one. No, looks like I missed a goal...Man 1 - Que 0.

Manitoba failed to capitalize on a breakaway and Quebec came away empty handed on the lone power play of the period.

Manitoba with the edge in play in the 2nd but not on the scoreboard as Quebec ties it up at one.

Manitoba squandered another breakaway and their lone pp was pretty bleak looking.

    Man 1 - Que 2 final.

Quebec squeaks out the win on a pp goal from a scrum in front.

Manitoba failed to capitalize on their third breakaway of the game.

    Man 4 - N.B. 1 final.

Olivia Cvar with a 4 goal night for Manitoba that she won't soon forget.
