      That'd be fine if they had systems in place that were real alternatives. The only alternative the US has is the voluntary Lottery Tax which gives morons and idiots the hope that they'll one day be part of the 1%. Remember, we had big changes under FDR at one time and they worked. Hasn't stopped the GOP from destroying those institutions since 1980 through Laffer/Rand worship.

      Or do we just want to go back to the 1920's? Is that what "Make America Great Again" really means?

                No genius we cant afford any of that. Maybe take 12 seconds to look who you are responding too before you go off on one of your stupid "Scooby Doo Meme Fests" where you repeat the same 4 talking points like Donald Trump during his 3am "Executive Time".

                We are drowning in debt and if the plan is to add more to it by funding 4 year college starting in 2020 then please god stay away from my checkbook.

                No matter how much we might wish we could just snap our finger and be Sweden we cant be...we need to take the victories we can get not waste it all on pipe dreams that have .01% of happening or not backfiring ridiculously. We need to claw back what was wasted and THEN we can talk about free education. And no that isnt for 4 year degrees (at least not yet) you start with the first two years. (at public university no private) You can get your generals out of the way or go trade school...whatever you want but that is it. That is a passable deal.

                But please tell me where we are getting the money. And before you start talking about cutting the military understand NONE of the candidates will actually cut the military the necessary number to fund everything we need funded. Zero. Zilch. Even St. Bernie of the Combover wouldnt do it. Cutting the military is a one way ticket to being a one term president because the military is the worst welfare program we have. So you need to figure out some other way to do it.

                  Guy who doesn't understand modern monetary theory says we can't afford it. Shocking

                  Our national budget/debt doesn't work like a typical house hold, we can take on debt, print money (the most powerful currency on the planet), and afford to pay for these programs the same way we can afford to pay for literally everything else.

                        You planning on raising tax levels to the 1940s? (since you brought it up) Then you have a point. You wont win the election but hey at least then you would be intellectually honest.

                        We arent starting from zero here folks. Even if you assume you could change the system over night (you cant) the amount of strain that type of capital investment would have on the economy is ridiculous. Plus you arent just talking about paying for everyone's schooling, you are going to have to forgive everyone's debt. You dont think that is going to cause a few issues?

                          The 1.5 trillion we just passed would have paid for it all. And, it would've been a better stimulus. Dream big.

                            Well lets see I had this conversation with two people who were international bankers and taught economics and finance in college. (both of whom arent supply siders) I am going to bet they know more about it than yo and Scooby do. But sure go on with your bad self.

                                Medicare for all will save the American people trillions, so we're not really adding debt there. A Green New Deal could potentially pay for itself as could a college proposal. And yes you can take on debt in the short term to do it, we don't have a budget crisis or whatever Paul Ryan wanted you to believe until Trump became president and suddenly it no longer existed.

                                And yes taxes would likely be raised of course.

                                And I'm sure the bankers you talked to were professors who wrote books about MMT.
