Hey Lodge. So, Dad's in a rehab facility. He was having chest pains last night, which has bothered him in addition to his back. It got worse last night, mom called 911. Because of his age and the fact that he had chest pain, they wound up admitting him. His heart is fine. His blood pressure skyrocketed. I think that was mostly due to nerves, anxiety, etc. They got that under control. They looked into his back, said he has compression disease syndrome. Not sure what that means.
They said they wanted him to go to rehab to help his back. Found a place close by, they transferred him around 6pm. My mom and brother were with him. The nurse got him out of bed, where he had been all day and night, to go weigh him, got him into a wheelchair, and his back started hurting him again. He'd been fine all day but he was in bed. It was really bad, and my mom said he wanted to go home. They hated leaving him. My mom is exhausted. I feel awful. They didn't call me till today. I have two doctor appointments tomorrow and will head up there afterwards. He's going to be in the through Christmas. I don't know how he's going to get through it. I hope they're able to help him. Please think happy thoughts for him.
Maybe compression fractures? Sounds like even tho he wants to be home he is where he needs to be to get this straightened out. Really not good for him to be in bed all that time. Better to have someone assess and figure out the best way to get him moving rather than having him aggravated with everyone in the family when they are trying to get him to move. It may be that if they get him moving he does better. A lot of time the immobility and hanging out in bed actually makes things way worse. At first it feels better to be in bed but over time they become less and less mobile and with that they have more and more pain. Really stinks but this might be a blessing in disguise. There are some really good rehabs around here.
Tomorrow is dress up as your favorite Christmas character (Halloween in December). I'm strongly considering wearing all gray and saying I'm a Festivus pole.
If you wear that outfit into the Lodge, someone will say, "Where's the poll?"
So the Lodge lives on? Amazing -- I'm proud of all y'all. Hello; Merry Christmas; Happy New Year; and have a great <insert holiday name here> for whatever else comes and goes before I get back in here. You go into most long-living threads on the internet, and there are a bunch of posters that you don't know. But the Rep Lodge is rather unique, in that it doesn't really attract a lot of new followers. Ralph is about the only one who I see in a hockey forum, but I see Brent posting on GPL. Lewis and 'Trumpet are the others that I remember as dating back to the earliest days of organized repping.
Thanks for letting me stop in. A cold beer is about the only thing that would have improved the visit.

I am The Rube now, on here, finally got around to getting it changed. So you may see a post or three once in a while on the D1 side.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

Even the mention of the word/game/etc POG and I will cut you. Those f*ing things. And obviously, this goes with anything related to that word.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 199 - Dumb Poll of the Month
Hi Lodge. Going to try and hit the mall this morning to finish up some shopping and head back up to the rehab to see my dad. He starts PT today. Yesterday was not a good day. Started OK. But he really started to be in pain as the day went on. Didn't help matters when the rehab screwed up his dinner order because he changed rooms. GAH!! I hope today is a better day. It was really hard seeing him like that last night.
We really need to find a back specialist. I guess we would start with his PCP? Or maybe call their insurance company? I'm feeling really stressed right now. I don't know how to proceed. Rehab will hopefully help a bit but I can't see he will be I any shape to come home soon. They're not miracle workers. I'm trying to remain calm to see how he does over the next two to three days. I have a feeling we won't be able to do anything till after Christmas. And to top things off, I'm coming down with a cold.

Calgon, take me away!!
PCP. NOT the insurance company as they will tell you he can see people but it will turn out they aren't in network, only on insurance list. There are a couple of really excellent back guys local. Used to be in Boston but were poached to here. I would see either in a flash (have seen one already. mr les refers to both all the time). VERY good. Couple of not so good ones. PM me on FB if you want names. Unless the PCP has privileges in the Rehab your Dad probably has the staff Provider (like hospitalist in hospitals) who writes orders. The first thing anyone is going to say is to do some PT/rehab before they decide the next course of action so you are probably ahead of the game. This goes for things that might need further intervention too as the rehabing helps outcome for any course of action to be more successful.
Before you decide to do anything wait a bit. They probably will have a fam mtg with the whole team and they will be able to make suggestions about what is the best course of action. Much better to let them take the lead. If you start doing stuff it may put a spoke int he wheels when they are planning the best course. They have no motivation to keep anyone long. If the person doesn't meet certain measures they don't get paid. (Unsolicited advice. Sorry!)
