That has been changed this season; 19 skaters are now permitted. Expect Meirs Moore, as well as any future "utility players" we may have in the future, to benefit greatly from this and find themselves cracking the extra skater role.

We concluded when it was announced that it would be of benefit in two situations: when there is an injury and when there is a misconduct penalty since there still will be enough players for 4 lines and 3 sets of D. As Flaggie wrote, someone who can play both F and D will be useful.

Thanks Dude. Was not aware and really like that. So often with 6 defensemen we would get either an injury or a misconduct or disqualification and had to play short. now if we could only make that extra skater a designated face off man who could win more than 50%

Based on the interview, sounds like Coach Smith really likes it as well, calling out specialty situations. Faceoffs wasn't one of them, though.

it really seems rather simple doesn't it? You cannot score if you do not get the puck. The opponent cannot score if they cannot get the puck. All about control. Seems to me that and odd man situations (specialty team play) is just about the most important thing to focus on.

Let’s be clear (for those who don’t live in hockey east land:

UMass Amherst - known as UMass
UMass Lowell - known as Lowell or the Dirty Birds.

Not ENTIRELY true, as there have been plenty of times a team has put the puck into their own open net. However, possession can be a bit misleading, especially considering a significant percentage of goals in our league are scored on the odd man rush.
