based on a look at the box score, Conn was actually the better team. Goaltending the difference in this one.

Conn PP [0-6] is simply abysmal. Have they scored a single PPG all season???

Hard to score on the PP when your coach doesn't have a clue how to teach the PP among many other aspects of the game.

Middlebury 4 Utica 3 Midd was up 3-0 but held on

Conn 3 Manhattanville 0 Camels 3 1st period goals

Watched the Conn-Manhattanville game. Conn dominated through the whole game, shut down the M'ville offense, and got their second power play goal of the season. It was a good game.

The Cards totally dominated the second period when they scored three. The young Bants played pretty well in the third but the outcome was determined in the second. The Cards have some very impressive first years.

Ya, so we never referred to any of our teammates as "first years" when I was a player. That level of political correctness drives me nuts. We rarely referred to anyone as a freshman either but definitely used that term much more often. We mostly used the terms rookies and veterans or returners.

Amherst (2-4-1, 1-2-1 NESCAC) resumes action Saturday and Sunday, hosting undefeated William Smith (10-0, 8-0 UCHC).

Amherst coming back after losses to Elmira and Oswego at Orr and an inconsistent weekend against Trinity.

Hope to be in Orr at least Saturday!

Appear to have overlooked Lake Forest's foray to the East.

The Foresters (6-3-2, 5-1-2 NCHA) visit Colby (3-2-2, 2-2 NESCAC) on Sunday, then slide south into Watson, as Bowdoin (0-7-1, 0-2 NESCAC) looks to escape an unimaginable (remember those 'dreams in black and white') 0/9 start to the season.

12 regular season conference games remain to be played in sorting out this year's NESCAC. Heading up to Kenyon to watch another round of Amherst-Middlebury Friday and Saturday (before slipping across the App Gap to Northfield for the East/West!).

This weekend:

Hamilton is the winner of the Delta Hotels Burlington Ice Hockey Classic at St. Michaels, besting Buffalo State and Southern Maine

Williams takes down the Polar Bears

Colby sweeps Wesleyan at home.

Middlebury takes 3 points.

Conn and Trinity split their series in Hartford.

I, as a longtime observer of NESCAC play, realize the odds of the above predictions coming true approach zero, because NESCAC conference play never makes sense to anyone (but the Goal Gods).

Amherst and Middlebury traded powerplay goals as goalies Walker for Amherst and Han for Middlebury were both stellar in turning aside the other 51 shots, resulting in Middlebury (4-1-3, 3-0-2 NESCAC) and Amherst (4-4-2, 1-2-2 NESCAC) skating to a 1-1 draw.

Amherst clearly benefited from the 2 games they played last weekend and had territorial advantage early in the contest. Midd had an early chance at 2:40 of the 1st when Keating moved across the slot and flipped a backhand off the top of the cage from low in the right circle. Mammoth goalie Walker made a nice right pad stop on Liedt's try from in close gloveside at 14:30. Amherst cashed in their 2nd powerplay of the contest. Swarming low in the right corner Hoang and Wiater dug the puck to Hunyadi on the right boards. Hunyadi skated out up along the wall, curled onto her forehand above the top of the right circle and slung a long wrist shot, up off the ice and in off the far post on Han's stickside.

Early in the 2nd Middlebury's powerplay goal came with seconds on the penalty and was more a goal in transition than a powerplay set piece. Portner fed Zumwinkle in center ice in front of the Middlebury bench and Zumwinkle entered the zone on the right and launched a rocket of a slap shot; Walker parried the drive with her right pad, but Hargrave snared the long rebound around the left dot and quickly put a forehand in high over Walker's stickside.

The 2nd featured uneven flow with refs Rapin and Cross whistling 5 penalties in a minute and four seconds and fans witnessed some 3x3 play.

Middlebury had shaken off the rust and dominated the 3rd, outshooting the Mammoths 14-4 for the period, but goaltender Walker was equal to the challenge. Late in the frame, at 16:56, Amherst forced Han to cover in the crease after DelRosso threaded a shot through traffic.

Overtime failed to produce a score and 1-1 was the final.
