You obviously didn't go to a NESCAC school. It's probably asking TOO much of you to understand what I mean.

It will be interesting to see if Bill Mandigo announces his retirement from coaching this year with Salerno back in the fold.......

Has there been any indication Mandigo is retiring other than the hire of what looks like an heir-apparent? Because I don't think that alone is enough evidence his retirement is imminent. Plattsburgh men's assistant coach Steve Moffatt has been considered the heir-apparent since he came back to Plattsburgh but he's heading into his 3rd season since his return.

That was the unspoken reason for her departure from Castleton after 1 year (and yes, I know there are other concerns in the background). The thinking goes: if it wasn't imminent why didn't she stay for at least another season to gain head coaching experience.....

Because the Castleton situation sucks maybe?!

The benefit of the heir-apparent deal for the university is they get the heir-apparent working as their assistant/associate head coach, laying more roots down in their campus town, investing in their retirement plan. If the heir-apparent doesn't come work as the assistant, they run the risk of that coach either planting roots where they currently are or finding an even better job at a third school. And the school is dangling that HC vacancy as a carrot. "Hey, you want to be the head coach after [insert long-time coach] retires, come work for us right now as the assistant. Otherwise we're going to seriously consider all good candidates who apply and you don't have a leg up."

                    Re: '18-'19 NESCAC season

The NESCAC season finally gets underway this evening at 7 with the puck drop at Orr for Conn at Amherst. Middlebury visits Koeppel and Trinity at 7:30. Both series have a matinee on Saturday. Williams visits Hamilton in the friendly confines of Russell-Sage on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Colby and Bowdoin open with their traditional home and home; Alfond Saturday evening and Watson Sunday afternoon.

Let the guessing begin. My guesses: Amherst get 3 points, Williams and Hamilton split and Midd and Colby sweep.

Best of Luck to all the players, coaches, officials, parents and fans for a fantastic 2018-2019 season!

                      Re: '18-'19 NESCAC season

Good opening night for the Panthers as they carried the action for most of the game but particularly in the third when the Bantams couldn't stay out of the box. Expect another tight one in Amherst this afternoon. We will see how the Continentals respond without Walther in the net and looking for the Polar Bears to start strong this year and sweep the Mules.

                        Re: '18-'19 NESCAC season

Middlebury and Trinity skated a typical 1st period, first game of the season , last evening at Koeppel. 2 minor penalties, lots of back and

forth, Panthers with some territorial advantage. The Bantams did have an excellent chance and offense following their powerplay, as Mac

Master fed the puck through the paint (what color is the crease at Koeppel?) with no one home to beat Midd goalie Han.

The 2nd saw Trinity score, digging the puck away in the left wing, White working along the back wall and getting the puck to Han's gloveside post, with Marsden fighting it home. Middlebury evened things some minutes later, as the Panthers put mounting possession and pressure on Karpman in the Bantam net. Ryan had an open lane and shot from left point; the drive was tipped in the high slot by Keating (first career goal) over Karpman.

The gamewinner came on the powerplay for the Panthers. Leidt controlled a loose puck in the left corner, curled out , up and off the boards, advanced on her forehand, dropping a feed to Hargrave (career first gaol) in the slot to Karpman's gloveside for the score. Midd got a hustle goal when Shuchuk chased down a dump in that was on net and beat the D and goalie at the crease for the score. Fourth goal saw Coates grind the puck from the left corner, out to Marotta, whose long slapshot from inside the blueline made it through many screening bodies, past Karpman low. 4-1 final; shots 38-14.

Rematch today at 4pm in Hartford.

GO U BEARS...another story...I still dream in black and white (once in awhile)...and there is the whole Polar Bear-White Mule thing

Question for the rules lawyers. During last nights game and this one, I though I saw Trinity take a penalty. Milddlebury then scored. And Trinity was still short a player. Has that rule changed? Scoring a goal no longer ends the penaly?

NCAA rules specify that a delayed penalty is enforced even if there is a goal scored against the penalized team. It's actually been in effect for a while. This is an NCAA thing not a universal rule.

Colby scores a powerplay goal in OT, sweeps the Polar Bears, and sits tied with Middlebury in first place with 4 points. Bowdoin dominated for 10 minutes of the 1st, but things turned around. Polar Bears seemed undisciplined and took 8 penalties, including a major and game misconduct, as the White Mules cashed in on the powerplay.
