    Re: Mercyhurst Lakers 2018-2019

What an amazing game. The Lakers won 5-4 in overtime on an Emma Nuutinen goal off the rush, with four seconds left. She rushed up the right hand side of the ice, was perhaps a 3 on 2, she cut to the middle, bodies everywhere, and goes top shelf as the goalie moved across the crease. Looked like the mirror image of a typical Artemi Panarin goal.

Emma had one of her best games as a Laker - also scored a short handed goal in the second, and a breakaway goal in the third to tie it up. Amazing team win. The Lakers were down 4-1 at one point before starting their comeback. Great OT goal call by the pxp guy. Can’t wait for highlights.

Lakers are now 5-5 on the season.

Congrats on the sweep in what sounds like a great weekend series to have watched! Can we borrow Nuutinen for just the rest of her playing career?

Lol thanks Zed! Yes Nuutinen is some kind of X factor when she’s on. Hurst are lucky to have her amongst their cast of talented players.

Finally getting a chance to post. The series this weekend was very exciting to watch, especially the Saturday game. In the world of sports, it's never over til the final buzzer goes and MH never gave up. Great to see some line combos clicking and the girls always giving their all. Robert Morris and Penn State gave Mercy a good battle, it was good hockey to watch this weekend if you're a Mercy fan

The games against Minnesota and Wisconsin were a tough start to the season, the games against Syracuse were a good result. But the season is young, the Lakers just need to take the season one weekend (or game) at a time.

Junior Emma Nuutinen was named to Team Finland’s roster for the Four Nations, today. Congrats and good luck to Emma.

The Lakers will take on Cornell the weekend of the Four Nations; they play the Lindenwood Lions on Saturday and Sunday of this weekend.

The Lakers take on Lindenwood at Lindenwood at 730 EST. The Lakers are 3-2 vs Lindenwood in their last five. On paper Hurst is the better team, but Lindenwood always comes to play, makes me kind of nervous, tbh.

Other teams around the country are having missteps this weekend, so two wins would be worth even more than usual. Gotta earn the first one of course.

              Let’s go Lakers!

It is perplexing to me, but the Lakers struggle with Lindenwood. Syracuse, a team that Mercyhurst swept, swept Lindenwood. Not only that, Syracuse scored 11 goals on Lindenwood over the course of the weekend! Yesterday, the Lakers lost to Lindenwood 4-1, outshooting them 31-26. The good news is the Lakers take them on once again today, starting at 1:30 today.

As expected, the Lakers rebounded with a dominant performance today, winning 5-0 at Lindenwood. The Lakers improve to 6-6 on the season. McDonnell got her second shutout of the season. Congrats to freshmen Perreault and Rheaume who each got their first collegiate goal today.

Next up, the Lakers prepare to host Cornell next weekend.

Nice write up on Liliane Perreault and Alexane Rheaume’s NHL connections. Better yet, video footage of each of their first goals. Perreault went with the non celebration style of goal celebration; Rheaume a little more expressive.

Man, that was just bad from Lindenwood, stranding one lone player to deal with Perreault that deep, but Perreault must have been licking her chops when that defender blew an edge...good for her for finishing it! Agreed, and especially good for her for finishing it!

In Four Nations news - Emma Nuutinen has two goals in two games, Finland is 1-1-0 in the tourney and takes on Canada tomorrow. Great to see Emma making some noise in this tourney. I believe she is the only NCAA player in Finland’s roster.

Nylund from St. Cloud is also playing for Finland.

                            Re: Mercyhurst Lakers 2018-2019

The Lakers tied 7th ranked Cornell 4-4, yesterday, outshooting them 31-14. A ten minute span in the 2nd had the Lakers trailing 3-0, before starting their comeback. Kennedy Blair entered the net in relief halfway thru the second period. She has had three starts this year, is 0-3-1 (Minnesota, Wisc, Cornell).

Goal scoring for the Lakers came from Vasko, Hine (2) and also a first college goal for freshman Mary Katherine Gialames. Congrats to Gialames. Gialames is from Pittsburgh, one of a very few Pa players to play for Mercyhurst in its history.

The two teams play again today.

And they followed it up today (Sunday) with another tie, this time scoreless at 0-0, and again outshooting Cornell 30-18. Great weekend for the Lakers!

It was a solid weekend for sure. Would have loved a W, but still a good result against 7th ranked Cornell. The Lakers have two weeks off now, and play a one game series at Union on the 26th.

As for today’s game, although I have only been watching the streams for two seasons, I’d say that was the best game I’ve ever seen McDonnell play. Some great stops in an 18 save shutout. Boissonault (G) for Cornell was also very good in a 30 save shutout.

Top to bottom the Lakers played well, so many times I thought they were going to score, including a dreaded post in the dying seconds of OT.

I enjoyed watching them play Cornell, missed them on the schedule last year. When the Lakers take on Union it will only be the second time in program history, so that road trip will be a new adventure for all the players. Looking forward to getting Nuutinen back, and moving on to the next series, after what is hopefully a productive rest for the team.
