I love how he keeps doing this lame Ben Shapiro schtick where he's the only one who's thought through all the potential possibilities and waits for all the facts, unlike everyone else in this thread who are being unreasonable.

Police officers can often justify a search with six words: “I smelled an odor of marijuana.”

Courts in New York have long ruled if a car smells like marijuana smoke, the police can search it — and, according to some judges, even the occupants — without a warrant.
But in late July, a judge in the Bronx said in a scathing opinion that officers claim to smell marijuana so often that it strains credulity, and she called on judges across the state to stop letting police officers get away with lying about it.

“The time has come to reject the canard of marijuana emanating from nearly every vehicle subject to a traffic stop,” Judge April Newbauer wrote in a decision in a case involving a gun the police discovered in car they had searched after claiming to have smelled marijuana.

Well yeah, it’s hard to disprove something as subjective as smell and the DA generally takes the cops’ word at face value in those instances where they need something to justify a search.

Legalize that s- and it goes away (at least at the state level).

And no, cops don't decide guilt and punishment. They have to decide the degree of neutralization, depending on the threat and the knowledge they have at that moment. A judge and/or jury then decide the guilt and punishment of the parties involved.

Posts like yours are, well, ridiculous. Let's just swing that pendulum all the way over to points that support your opinion.

That is certainly the hope and it is usually the case, I'm sure, but officers who use their weapons on suspects are deciding punishment, like it or not. It is a position of power and control, and some who are drawn to that for the wrong reasons will seek the job.

I'm not sure why we give all cops guns.

95% of what cops do is humdrum b.s. Take guns away from 95% of cops, put QB Training Camp red shirts on the ones who have them. Reserve the red shirts for response to critical situations -- never send them out looking for (initiating) trouble.

That would de-escalate all the neighborhood situations and stop the Poors from feeling like they live in a perpetual prison where the cops are the guards ("officer" = "overseer"; slavery never ended).

When the SWAT cops are called it's an unusual instance and everybody gets the f-ck off the streets.

I think one of the mayoral candidates of Minneapolis ran on a similar platform but didn't win. The problem is there are way too many guns for that to be a realistic possibility. If we implemented some Australia like policies then sure.

police used a robot to blow up the house of a mentally ill man and then shot him in the face. now he's suing them:

                    https://bangordailynews.com/2019/09/...-it-to-others/

This all started when the mentally ill man shot at a neighbor the previous day. The neighbor waited a day to call the police because he was worried that the police might end up shooting the man who was obviously having some kind of mental breakdown. Once the police had the house surrounded, he was no longer a thread to the public. They could have waited him out and brought in someone that could have resolved this peacefully. Also, why do police in rural Maine need robots with explosives?

the police couldn't have done a worse job handling this

Well but maybe they had to make a split second decision and maybe the mentally ill person threatened the robot and if there were MOAR cops...

I still can’t believe there wasn’t more uproar when the shooter in Texas was blown up in the parking ramp in Texas. No one was at risk. They literally drove a robot up to him with a bomb and blew it up.

Should have all been prosecuted for murder.

The guy shot and killed 5 or 6 cops. Even most of the people (like most on this forum) who are horrified at the things cops are often allowed to get away with were horrified at the targeted deaths of those cops. If you vocally expressed much of a problem with it, you would probably be thought of as a dangerous radical.

But you are correct. What they did was an extrajudicial killing, and they all could have been charged with murder, but finding 12 people who would convict, especially in shoot-'em-up Texas would have been unlikely.
