No info about streaming makes me want to assume the worst, but we won't know until the first game back at the Gene. Fingers crossed!

Bowling Green giving a little rub to alum Wayne Wilson? I'll take it, hope we can steal a game or two.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2018/2019 - Time For The Tigers to Roar <<<

Good weekend for RIT (3rd periods not withstanding), but a little bit of a disappointing start conference wide. 3-12-1 (.219) is solidly behind last year's .335 winning percentage, and a lot of those games last week were played at home. Of course, Minnesota State was able to finish 6th in pairwise last year despite the WCHA finishing with a .353 interconference winning percentage, which just goes if you have one truly dominant team in a conference, you can still get into the dance with a great conference record and representative non-conference record in a poor conference.

To go into further detail, Minnesota State themselves were 4-2-0 out of conference and 25-8-1 inside of their conference (including the playoffs, which they lost in the semifinals). The rest of the teams in the WCHA only managed a 13-32-7 record outside of conference (worse than last year's Atlantic Hockey overall record at .317) and yet Minnesota State was able to ride a solid but not great non-conference record and dominant conference record to get into the dance despite losing to a .500 team in the conference playoffs.

You can also go back to 2013 when Niagara rode a 20-5-2 conference record and a 1-3-3(!) non-conference record into the tourney despite Atlantic Hockey's .290 non-conference winning percentage that year.

To be fair, that Niagara team probably wouldn't get in under the current pairwise rules, however, they almost certainly would have under the current rules with a representative non-conference record (say 3-2-2 instead of 1-3-3)

Not sure how much say the host team has in who to invite. The tournament is run by College Hockey Inc.

This is why you want to have a strong out-of-conference schedule no matter what your league does. This season, Minnesota State has BU (they beat them twice last weekend), North Dakota x 2 this weekend, plus 2 x Minnesota, and then Minnesota Duluth and either Clarkson or Arizona State. UMass Lowell, Northeastern and Colgate are good teams for RIT to have on the schedule.

I'm sure it didn't hurt if Bowling Green expressed an interest in having RIT join them as the host team. College Hockey Inc has no reason to burn that relationship over not inviting a fairly well known team.

It will be interesting to see how Arizona State does this year. So far they've swept one of the worst teams in college hockey in blowouts and been swept in close games by one of the best. At the very least, looking at their remaining schedule, they will be a boon for the opponent's opponent's portion of the RPI for us when they visit in February. There's a lot of ranked teams remaining on that list. If they do relatively well and we can hold home ice against them plus win the homecoming game, we might have the non-conference portion of the results down for once (yes, this is extremely optimistic thinking, and requires Lowell to have a decent HEA season too). Hell, while I'm being pie in the sky optimistic, maybe we can go down to Northeastern and win a game too.

If we did all that, an at large birth would be in play with a strong regular season like we had in 2009 and 2010 or Niagara had in 2013, or Robert Morris had in 2015, or Air Force had whichever year they weren't the 16th overall seed after they won the AHA playoffs.

Win the conference tournament and that gets you in and a good non-conference record helps with seeding. The best way to get back to the Frozen Four and beyond would be to win as many games as possible to avoid playing the #1 or #2 team.

Another poor night for the conference...Holy Cross drops a winnable game against St. Lawrence, Niagara only succeeds in ****ing off Penn State by scoring the first goal en route to losing big, and Mercyhurst got dominated by Ferris State. Blech.

At least UMass Lowell beat Miami...

Unless you visit Ticketmaster or the BCA box office which still both have available seats. But yes, the RIT avenues mysteriously list it as sold out.
