Interesting news from the Point Roberts, WA regional. The bordering community of Tsawwassen, BC has been approached about building a joint ice sheet along Roosevelt Way (the US border street) and the Boundary Bay neighborhood, specifically into the land owned by Boundary Bay Elementary school. The rink would be covered but open to the elements, and would align the center ice red line directly on top of the international border. Therefore, any game staged in the arena would require the participants to check in with customs & immigration agents each and every time they cross into the opponent's end of the ice. The puck would also be subject to any searches or tariffs imposed by either government as an imported item if sent alone, but would be exempt as a personal item if carried across by a player. Negotiations have not reached a stage to discuss issues like changing ends of the ice each period. When asked about funding to construct the facility, the Point Roberts Chamber of Commerce issued a statement saying "we're going to build it, and Mexico is going to pay for it".

Site prep began immediately at the Boundary Bay Elementary School location, and the first flooding happened last night. In an unforeseen result, the birds from the nearby George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary discovered the location and were sighted this morning flocking to the still open water (since the overnight temps never got below 3°C). Natural Resources Canada has already alerted the Point Roberts Chamber of Commerce that the site may be contaminated by droppings from the lesser snow geese who landed.

So in short, it's right where we want it to be.

Word out of the Music City Mall in Odessa is that the MCM Rink regional site is looking better and better. There are no real locker rooms, just a small common area for both teams to lace up and talk strategy between periods. Teams may consider retreating to opposite ends of the food court to avoid prying ears. Also, the personal lockers that are available are all broken, and won't actually secure any belongings or equipment.

In addition to the Hot Topic skinny jeans and hoodies, the committee may consider mandating that the BFB players use the rental figure skates that are reported to have rusted blades and broken lace eyelets.
