The tourny was held in LP 1993-2002 and 2014-present

    Cornell's results:

    96 WW
    97 WW
    98 L (the infamous PIG)
    00 LL
    01 WL
    02 WL
    14 L

    7-8

In addition we swept the NCAA Tournament in Lake Placid in 1970 to complete our 29-0-0 season, but that was at the old rink.

It’s definitely sad to see another Union hockey season end. Thank you to all the seniors for everything. I believe there is hope for the future as Hansen will hopefully develop into one of the top goalies in the country and our young defense gains another year of experience. The main question is on offense and who will step up and how the new freshman will fit into our system.

Season not officially over for Union. CHN found one scenario (actually 4) that gets Union into the tournament. Its unlikely but anything is possible. It doesn't matter what the Atlantic Hockey teams do by the way because if any of the 4 win then Union would still be in.

Considering Union still has a very small chance, a little surprising to see this...

The season has finally ended for the ECAC and the last team out was Quinnipiac. Next year its hard to imagine us finishing in the top half of the league since we are losing so much. But then I think about the BobCats. They were picked to finish 8th in the ECAC and ended up tied for first and came very close to making the FF. I am always amazed how important a freshman class is to DI hockey. You could see that the BobCats had "acid in the gut" from day 1 and played that way all year. Here is hoping that next years freshmen bring to us that same time of intensity.

As disappointing a season this was for us, we still did a lot better than a whole host of other teams where the expectations were much higher and the performance was much lower.

We will miss the seniors. They are a class act. True student athletes and outstanding young men. We had an outstanding record at home and that is huge in building local pride and a strong following for the team.

Bennett will have his work cut out for him next year. Time to build from the ground up.

                    Did they have a choice?

His game plans for both games were excellent.

Although the Q incoming class was also much-heralded. A great frosh class can change a program's fortunes but it is very rare that it just magically comes out of nowhere -- it's usually something people can see coming from a year or even more away.

UC is losing so much that I assume the frosh class will be enormous. Hopefully for you many of those guys pan out. I think you'll be fine. The current top 4 in the ECAC look solid barring some sort of BU-level massive core dump of early departures, but having seen every one of those teams play in my opinion UC was competitive with them and if anything better than Harvard. They were certainly well above Dartmouth and Yale despite the conference finish. My intuition at the moment is that somebody in the top 4 (Clarkson?) will dip and Union will be right there to step into the gap.

I am interested to hear some perspective on the incoming class. As you can tell, I am new to this board. I have been following the Dutchmen for most of this year and I can understand the frustration of the fans. You got to see everything from giant killers to tournament winners to losses to cellar dwellers. There seems to be a number of very dedicated fans for UC and for some of the other ECAC teams. I hope to learn more from you and follow closely in the coming seasons. Thanks to all of you who contribute your knowledge and opinions. It is helpful for the newbies to acclimatize.

I am always amazed how important incoming classes are to college hockey. These past few years, some of our new recruits, while fine people, good hockey players and excellent students, did not measure up to the billing and hype they received as freshmen. Others exceeded expectations. Go figure. Not easy being a coach.

Team Grade Point Average and Overall: Winter Term - 3.27; Overall - 3.22 (Fall/Winter)

I would like to commend our student-athletes for their commitment to their academics. Let me provide a brief story that captures this commitment. During the ECAC Quarterfinals best of 3 series at Cornell, the team had final exams the following Monday after playing 3 games in 3 nights (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). As a staff, we watched a team battle through adverse conditions in the rink and then in a short amount of time be prepared for their exams. We witnessed first-hand the challenging moments that mold the heart and mindset of a student-athlete. We are grateful to Sherrie Lyons (Team Academic Officer - Study Hall) for her help preparing our student-athletes with these academic challenges and for setting the foundation for our first year players.

Post Season Award Winners presented at the banquet:

Coaches Award: Cole Maier (A leader who led by example)
Most Improved Player: Brandon Estes (Developed his offensive game to match his steady defensive play)
Thomas VanArden Dukehart Award: Ryan Sidorski (Highest Grade Point Average--excellent academic achievement as a first year student)
Scott Richardson Unsung Hero Memorial Award: Josh Kosack (provided value to the line-up every night with determination and grit)

Thanks for the information. An impressive year for the team and some standout results in the classroom and on the ice. While most of the fans would prefer that they went deeper, maybe the end result wasn't so bad if they pushed Cornell hard while not sacrificing their studies. I think they might have picked the right priority from a life standpoint?

And every year starts with promise. Let's hope they are playing meaningful games late into the season.

Seeing that Union lost quite a bit, is there any possibility that they dip into the transfer portal? I know that anyone brought in has to sit a year but may be worth the gamble.
