No they are. That still isnt saying what you think it is. The Dems dont need the Green Party to have control of the government. That is what a coalition government means.

Our parties are already coalitions...it would take the two major parties (the Green Party is not a major party) splitting up into more equal parties for there to be a need. Some voters going third party isnt the same thing.

No. They need their votes. I know exactly what you're talking about. And I'm making the larger point. We have a two party system. And Voters apparently are too stupid to realize that.

The Green Party or the Dem Socialists need to win 20-25 House seats to have any real influence, similar to the Freedom Caucus.

What they've had previous to this is masturbatory fantasies whose only effect is to throw close Presidential elections to the Republican party.

So you argue the wrong point to make another point no one is arguing with? I mean that is your prerogative and all but...yeah. People vote third party for stupid reasons...in other news water is wet and Wisconsinites are alcoholics!

You might want to turn off the cable news for a few days and decompress because your tangents are getting weird.

Of course if the rest of the Dems just chose to vote the Greens wouldnt have any effect. Nader should have never been a factor (or Jill Stein) but the self righteous had to prove a point and not vote in the swing states. I blame them more than anyone.

So Nader (or Stein) voters voted that way and ... broke from the D coalition?

Whoever said "Freedom Caucus" gets bonus points. That's the closest to a true breakaway coalition yet.

Freedom Caucus votes Republican. It's the difference between factions that want power and factions that want to whine all the time cause they'll never have any power.

Yeah...whats your point? I assume since you pretend you are some big shot and all you know the difference between a party coalition (like how the GOP is a coalition of the Evangelicals and Wall Street) and a Coalition Government. You act stupid but I assume you at least took 6th grade Civics.

Anyone else get the feeling Scooby and Sicatoka are the same person trolling both sides?

                          My point is this:

We've long claimed the Ds and Rs are two distinct parties. I see them as two separate coalitions.

For quite a while those coalitions were very bonded; lately we're seeing fraying and decoagulation as hard core factions flow their separate ways from the greater organization. Examples? In the GOP the Freedom Caucus away from the Wall Street Rs; in the D side, well, the Clintonian view and the Sanders / Democratic Socialist view seem to be migrating apart. The better D example might be the Blue Dogs and the DemSocs.

To chop this discussion up a bit: Countries like the UK, Israel, Germany etc. all have Representative to Population ratios that are a lot lower than the US, so it’s easier for smaller parties to win seats (and large parties to keep members in line).

And, IIRC, the Blue Dogs were mostly put to sleep within 3 subsequent elections.

The reasons why coalitions won't happen in the US congress is because its easier to seize power from the traditional party apparatus and use that to advance your cause as opposed to creating a new party. The Dems and Goopers aren't splintering. In fact they're coalescing around some basic points. GOP = Trump Humping. If Trump is for something, so are they lock stock and barrel. Dems are coalescing around expanded govt intervention in health care, college affordability, and corporate regulation paid for by higher taxes on the rich. Yes, they may disagree on details but they've thus far been remarkably united.
