  • Re: The 2018 midterm elections!

Here's a blast from the past about how democrats can turn anything to 5h!t if they try hard enough. I was reminded of this once the polls came out showing some sort of a post-Kavanaugh bump for republican chances in November.

IF we change minds about the reality of sexual assault and harassment too many women face I suppose it is probably worth it to have a Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court or republicans hold the House or Senate. That would be long-term gain for short term (Hopefully? Maybe?) pain. But the sad fact was, Kavanaugh was going to be confirmed and we all knew that the day he was nominated. The only thing all the hand wringing and FBI investigating and camera posturing by every senator on the Judiciary Committee did is ignite more passion among the deplorables.

If by now women, people of color, people who aren't millionaires, union workers, you know, 90% of all voters, don't realize what is happening, the Kavanaugh nomination, caravans of migrants, phony tax cuts, all of it, isn't going to make a difference.

You never know what's going to be going on when Election Day rolls around. If you can where you live, get a mail in ballot and vote today. If there is early voting, vote today.

Well now that McCain is dead they feel they can finally destroy Obamacare. Collins everyone knows is going to vote for anything Trump or Paul Ryan tell her to (but she will definitely wave to random people at the airport to prove she is of the people!) so everything is pre-ordained. Sure a bunch of people will be upset and yell at them but the GOP wont care. They are all in on Trump-ism.

It amazes me as I read transcripts of the various state debates...the GOP isnt even hiding it anymore. Now the Center, according to them, is "Socialism" and anything other than cutting off all immigration is considered radical policy. Hell they make it sound like being bipartisan is a far left radical concept.

And the thing is, polling isnt showing it is working for many of these individuals (many still within the margin for error if they are leading at all) and they are STILL doubling down on it. It is kind of amazing to watch because there are better and easier paths to victory and they ignore them. That to me tells me that these guys are true believers not just people trying to use Trump-ism to win.

The real problem is that Democrats always have to be careful what they say (basket of deplorables, the Wellstone Funeral, etc.). Republicans do not. They get away with everything. And when they don't (Todd Aikin, Roy Moore) they brush it aside and move on without a massive fallout.

Funny, some poster with a name that looks just like mine said that about 2 weeks before the election actually hits the "Kavanaugh Effect" will have peaked and be on the down slope. Winners dont spend much time whining about the refs while the losers will remember for days/weeks.

Conventional wisdom is early voting trends Democrat. Well everything I am seeing is saying that early voting is up all over the place. Now Faux wants people to believe that this is a positive for the GOP but well...Faux.

They're setting it up. Let's say the Dems win the House and the Senate holds. What happens? Well, nothing happens on Health Care except the Republicans winning their lawsuit. Their lawsuit wins and insurance companies go back to not covering pre-existing conditions. The two years go by and during those two years Trump runs his campaign against Nancy Pelosi. America hates Nancy Pelosi more than they hate Hillary Clinton. What happens then? Hard to say. I'd guess Democratic voters who have no patience and no ability to play the long game have a Presidential Year voter depression that matches the Hillary Clinton depression. Whoever their candidate is could possibly fix that, but maybe not. Meanwhile we have two more years of Health Care hell with not even a bipartisan bill on prescription drug prices passing. A few more Caravans and a terrorist attack and you could see good old Trump riding his own wave.

It's said but the only good I see about the Democrats winning the House is that Trump will not be allowed to pass any legislation. I do not see any good coming out of any of the investigations. The public that supports these Republicans do not believe anything that comes from the Democrats or the media so it will not change anyone's mind. I hope and pray the independent pool is smart enough to figure it out but then I look at 2016 and I believe it's fools gold.

I've asked before and I'll ask again, I'd like to see where people or pundits actually think the GOP's prospects have improved. By that I mean an actual race, not "oh Trump's approval rating ticked up 1%". A resurgent Republican party puts the GA and OH governor's races away as well as the MT, IN, AZ, and MO Senate races. Right now the only race they've put away is ND, while the Dems have done the same in WVA. Regarding the House, the problem for the GOP isn't seats in Texas. Its 6 seats in CA, 6 in PA, 2 in VA, 3 in NJ, 2 in NY, 2 in IL, 2 in WA, 2 in MI, 2 in CO, 2 in MN, etc. Republicans needs to break even in blue states where they don't have the benefit of gerrymandering for the most part, and then kick a ss in the 40 other seats out there in places like FL and AZ. Anything's possible of course, but the same reason why the Dem Senate map is difficult applies to the Republicans and the House.

PS - If you listen to Scooby, you might think the Dems haven't won a Presidential election since LBJ!

No, if you ask Scooby what Democrats have accomplished he'd tell you nothing since 1980. Nothing. You laughed at me when I said Obamacare was gone. It is. It's a shell of it's former self and when the Court cases are finished the entire thing will be gone except for the name.

Trump has systematically destroyed everything Obama did. Clinton's accomplishments were dismantled by the Bush administration or they were bad bets (3 strikes policy).

I'm glad that perhaps it isn't going to have the effect I fear. This is the first poll of its kind I have seen reporting the opposite of what had been reported in the days following the Kavanaugh hearings and his confirmation. By now I'm guessing little will change any minds between now and election day. On November 6th we will see just how deplorable the electorate is or is not. Only a true blue wave would surprise me (overwhelming wins in the US House, state/local elections and retaking the US Senate).

I'm hoping for the Senate. There is still a shot at it. Only if the Democrats get the Senate will their be true change. And after that if they are able to hold and get the Presidency we may actually see some common sense in government again.

And it's said that it has to be one party. Really sad. But, like Rover says, the Republicans are a corrupt cult. And they need to be exorcised.
