Republicans vote no matter what, Democrats dont. (hence Trump getting roughly the same votes as McCain and Romney) This isnt rocket science. The GOP will vote en masse for whoever the nominee is. The Democrats only vote for the ones that are closet to what they want.

Stop trying to put everything in a box...this isnt theory we have real world results that you can look at and use to help you understand.

The Leah Reimini series on A&E had a few of them on one episode they were not the creepy insane Scientologists they were sort of like the Lutherans of Scientology

The interesting question is, why? The answer is Republicans feel better served by their party apparatus than Democrats. The idea that that is the voters' fault and not the party organization's fault is a bizarre type of out of touch entitlement.

RNC rhetoric, as grotesque and stupid as it is, plays to Republican voters. DNC rhetoric is mealy-mouthed and always cowering in the face of what the donor class wants; it plays to upper middle class voters obsessed with identity issues who don't want to rock the boat economically. Those are the people in graduate school seminars and on Sunday talk show panels and the people who watch Colbert and Sam Bee and John Oliver. But those are not the people we need to electrify to win elections.

Is it any wonder a higher percentage of Republicans turn out?

Was Miscavige the guy who essentially had Hubbard drugged and under house arrest for the last few years of his life? Talk about a con that got out of control.

But maybe this is how every religion gets going. What else was Joseph Smith than an absolute bald-faced con man with a taste for very young strange? And his con has gone international and rakes in billions. Hubbard himself directly stated he was going to make up a religion to make a fortune, and then did so.

Is there any reason to think Mohammed or Confucius or the apostles were any different?

What's that saying? If the leader is alive, it's a cult. If he's dead, it's a religion.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

Why? Why is easy. It's easier to vote and campaign when you're against something than when you're for something. They hate government. All of them. They don't think the government does anything for them. That's easy to vote for.

The things that they vote for and are for are easy as well.

                  Trump lying again.

“We’re now exporting energy for the first time. Never did it. Now we’re exporting energy.”

                  — President Trump, speaking at a briefing at FEMA headquarters on Wednesday.
                  False.

The United States has exported energy sources like coal, natural gas, petroleum and electricity for decades, so Mr. Trump is wrong that this is happening for the first time.

I can think of some reasons...but no real proof. Part of the GOP is what Scooby says Guns, Gays and Babies with tax cuts added in. (and now immigration) The GOP is hardline about that so that voting block always comes home. Plus the vast majority are white people so not much real conflict. The party is pretty united in what they feel are the most important issues.

Democrats are a coalition of the many. You have the youth vote, Women, you have the votes of the minorities, you have the votes of the LGBTQ, you have the Centrists, you have The Progressives, The Socialists (and more) all of whom are impassioned about their issues but can often come in conflict with another group. An easy example is when Obama being elected also passed anti gay legislation in I believe California. African Americans are not very LGBTQ friendly so when they came out to vote that was the consequence. Every group has their own sacred horse and that is what they choose to die on the hill for.

2016 is a perfect view behind he curtain. Every GOP candidate did whatever they could to take Trump down...but in the end they all bent a knee and kissed the ring because the issues matter more than the man. They knew if Trump won they got a Supreme Court Justice, they could get tax reform, roll back social reforms and get a lot of that sweet NRA money. The only people with courage once he was the nominee were old school GOPers not up for re-election. Just like now the only ones that fight Trump are the ones not seeking further office. Meanwhile the Democrats ****ed on each other and never showed any coalition. Bernie had to be forced to endorse Hillary and she wasnt exactly embracing him and his followers. The Bernie Bros hated Clinton because she represented everything they hate (she was after all, no better than a Republican to them) and the Clintonistas hate pretty much anyone that would dare stand in the way of her coronation.

To put it in Mob terms...the GOP has a capo di tutti capi and all fall under his sway. The Dems are The Commission with a board of directors which is more problematic. Sure in the old way bosses fought for power and killed each other but whoever won the rest all were loyal too. In the later years whoever controlled the most votes on the Commission held power and everyone had their own agenda. When it worked it was an efficient system that benefited the whole but when it didnt it was a cluster.

Yeah that is the stuff Miscavige did. He is nutso, he beats subordinates all the time and no one stops him. He also was the one who really pushed to court the celebrities and fight the government over the tax issues.

Mohammed from all accounts was a pretty great man. The problem (from what I can tell) was he never set up a proper line of succession which is where 90% of the problem lies. He would not be pleased with what Islam has become. (see also: Jesus) I am not saying Hubbard is like that mind you...he was just a guy fleecing the masses

I wish I could find it - but I just read a piece this week on this. Boiled down to republicans being so homogenous in demographics that banding together was simple. Where as Democrats are comprised of many different types of people

There is a brilliant video out there that I can't find right now about how "left" and "right" are meme complexes that stay in existence by cooperating to enrage half the people against each other.

Edit: here it is. Please watch, it's wonderful.
