    From the Star Tribune:

    Whitecaps sign Boulier

The Minnesota Whitecaps added a fifth player to their roster for the 2019-20 season, re-signing Amanda Boulier, a finalist for the NWHL defender of the year last season.

Boulier, a former St. Lawrence standout from Watertown, Conn., had five goals and eight assists in the 2018-19 regular season and added a goal and an assist in the playoffs as the Whitecaps captured the Isobel Cup championship in their first NWHL season.

Boulier joins goalie Amanda Leveille and forwards Jonna Curtis, Allie Thunstrom and Nicole Schammel in signing with the Whitecaps for the upcoming season.

when the NWHL first started, they were slow to sign players too, for much the same reason, problems with players who were in the CWHL
there is a lot of peer pressure not to sign
and the teams have no reason to be in a rush, nor the players for that matter
the teams need to get their ducks in a row, concentrating on the players that will be the core
and the players need to be sure their life is in order, since they need to have a job that supports them and allows them to play hockey
when the season starts, there may be even a few national team members on rosters once they realize they need to do what's best for themselves and not what's best for the Canadians and those that wanted to paly there

I don’t know how accurate or up to date this is but the Ice Garden tracker shows that a relatively small group of players have signed.

The US national team members have money in their pocket, getting paid by USA Hockey ($25K of it from the NHL which brings up the question, do the Canadians get anything from the NHL?), so they aren’t singing this tune. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWNfFMcWOuk

The Whitecaps keep moving along...looks like they'll eventually have a full team.

Northeastern announced their schedule and the opener is an exhibition game against the Boston Pride.

Curious how all of this is affecting relationships: former teammates, players/college coaches, etc.

For example - NU's most famous women's hockey graduate is part of the group of players who are refusing to play professionally in North America this year. The point of which is to hopefully clear the way for the NHL to get involved with a new Women's League which they do not want to do as long as the NWHL is active. Yet her former coaches set up an exhibition against a team from the league that she and her group are trying to break up. This lends credibility to the Pride and could result in some new fans who then check out some games during their season, which is exactly what the 200 players do not want to happen.

On the other hand, there are three NU alumni announced as being on the Pride this year. This game gives them a chance to return to the site of their college years, see old friends and get a thank you from their school and fans for everything they did for the program.

                      Tough spot for college coaches.

Coaches have to pay the rent and other responsibilities, unlike most of the National Team members who for the most part have been living their lives on someone else’s dime.

While maybe it’s possible something has been going on with the NHL and women’s pro hockey and they’ve just been waiting for the World Futbol championships to get over to maximise their PR exposure, I wouldn’t hold your breath on it. Recent events should show the NHL that unless they have a way of increasing attendance at the women’s game by a factor of 10 or more and selling broadcast rights, they are best off staying out, it will eventually be a quagmire of lawsuits that will cost them millions and shed them in a bad light with some fans.

USA hockey & the NHL have to be a bit miffed that the national team members won’t be playing pro hockey in the US this coming year. The whole idea of paying them was so that they could play hockey, No?
And now with their renumeration (over 1/3 of which is paid by the NHL) they AREN’T going to play hockey because their bills are being paid by USA Hockey and the NHL. I don’t think USA Hockey saw that coming, maybe they should have included it in their agreement since the whole mess started when the players NWHL salary was cut in half. “If we’re going to pay you what the NWHL isn’t, you still have to play pro hockey”.

BU also announced that they will be playing an exhibition game against the Pride, without announcing their schedule. It appears that the Pride is being proactive in trying to get exposure now that the Blades are gone and the top 200 or so players are boycotting the NWHL.

Not the NHL and women's pro hockey, but the NY Rangers just announced that they are jumping into support of girls' youth hockey in a big way, and have hired Amanda Kessel to help with that effort.

In addition...Tampa Bay is hosting an event with NWHL players. So maybe it is turning into individual teams finding ways to promote girls hockey

on a separate note....lots of signing in June~30. only 1 in July and we are halfway thru the month.
