I'm looking forward to seeing Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff running the marathon course as she tries to elude the police sent to arrest her.

Don't even swim in the water....

Athletes might be sailing and swimming through raw sewage, ruining matches and landing in hospitals as a result.

At first, Rio seemed to possess everything the International Olympic Committee could want: Otherworldly natural beauty and plenty of beaches and lakes for the aquatic sports. A willingness to host in the first place. Brazil also promised to clean up Rio’s bays and beaches in its Olympic bid, “setting a new standard of water quality preservation for the next generations.”

There have been long-simmering suspicions that the city’s water is too dirty for competitions. Like many other fast-growing cities in middle-income countries, Rio only treats a small percentage of its sewage....

Officials have already admitted they won’t meet their stated goal of treating 80 percent of the sewage that flows into the bay. It’s more like 65 percent, according to the most recent estimate.
I've heard people say they'd swim through shit to get a gold medal, but did they have to take it so literally??

(It is not for the indoor pools, there is swimming, sailing, rowing, offshore from those beautiful beaches.)

Former futbol star Rivaldo has asked fans not to come to Brazil. The political turmoil, the violence and public health were already in crisis mode. Add in this Zika Virus epidemic and this is the opening sequence of the next post-Apocalyptic thriller from Hollywood.

The subway system they were building to/from the Olympic Village for fans has stations that might not be complete by August. The portion of the Olympic bike path that juts out over the ocean collapsed, killing two passersby. The sewage issues, add in all those other things Rivaldo stated, and it just becomes readily apparent that these events should be awarded only to nations with the infrastructure and building codes and safety codes in place to support these sorts of events. Of course, such consideration will never be taken into place as it'll reduce the bidding price paid by the various cities and nations to the IOC. C'est la vie.

cripes, Athens in 2004 didn't have nearly as much lining up to go wrong with the Games right before they happen.

The continual "one-ups-manship" that takes place at these games are contributing to the balooning costs and construction time lines. Sochi had false walls to conceal construction and wet paint in areas as late as the closing ceremonies.

The City of Chicago bid was built upon sustainability (kinda). But the tired re-use of existing structures, the use of existing facilities within two hours of the city (coupled with it being held actually in Chicago) sank their bid.

Rio promised glitz, glamour, and new everything!

After decades of spoiling Olympic committee members and participants with new and fresh venues, can you really expect them to "slum" it in re-used facilities?

That, and the whole "we've never held the games in the Southern Hemisphere of Latin America" alure really helped juice their bid.

I simply assumed that Rio could line up hotter women for the IOC officials to bang than Chicago. That and Swiss accounts have decided every bid since the Atlanta.

Sepp Blatter looks at the IOC and thinks, "man, that's corrupt."

The World Health Organization says the Olympics should go on because there isn't a significant risk.

If the Zika Virus made it so men couldn't get boners it would be a significant risk, but since it's only pregnant females, it is no big deal.

Of course, if the virus prevented men from getting boners, there would already be a cure.

Steph Curry won't play in the Olympics, though more due to rest from injuries than anything else. However, Klay Thompson and Igoudala may drop out due to Zika concerns.
