You said it! If someone had told me that at the holiday break Penn State would be #5 in the CHA (and RIT ahead of them), I'd have said they were crazy. I would've put money on Penn State and Syracuse scrapping it out for #3 at the holiday break.

I don't know what needs to be worked on between now and Boston University on December 30-31. The offense puts plenty of pucks on net, but not enough of them are getting through. The effort is certainly there, and they go hard for the full 60 minutes, for sure, but the wins just aren't coming. I don't know - I'm just glad I'm not a coach having to figure it out. What do you think they need to work on?

I'm focusing on being one win from being .500 rather than the CHA. Coaching team works hard and is constantly making changes. I did not watch but I did like the Robert Morris commentators in the highlights.

Hopefully, the players get the memo that Compher is good. These two games looked winnable at the beginning of the season but BU just swept BC. Let's hope for the best.

Absolutely, the coaches and players are all working hard - they've been fun to watch so far. Here are the Robert Morris highlight videos you mentioned, if anyone missed them:

Highlites show Brenneman did not have one of her better weekends. I thought the first 2 goals each night by RM should have been saved.

Brenneman did look a little off her usual solid game, and it's hard to tell what kind of help she was getting. She's been a great addition to Penn State so far this season, and she'll be back in form.

Having just looked at the box scores from this weekend, some of the plus minuses were terrible. Jaycee G went to an all you can eat buffet. The Coaches make changes all the time, I am sure they will make more changes again. The last time State stopped a scorer was the second game against Providence. Hmmmm, how about copying what State did in that game to shut down Murphy. I hope someone in practice this week has a Compher jersey to emphasize the need to zero her out. Time to get the mojo back pre Syracuse. As always things could be worse with RIT having just swept Lindenwood.

I'll ask the question that's been on my mind for a few weeks now....is this team underperforming / underachieving so far this season? I kinda think they are but I'm not a program insider. Would love to hear from those of you who are.

Not an insider but see parallels to Brown. Is Brown the team that beat Colgate and Cornell or the team that just lost to Providence 8-0? Inconsistent teams can be maddening. Five different hockey guys or gals will say five different things to work on.

They beat Providence, they beat Colgate in that classic 12-player weekend, they took Mercyhurst to overtime, etc, and they go for the full 60 minutes, so it's hard to say why more wins aren't there. The talent is there, the drive is there. Individually, there are flashes of great stuff in every game (and not just from Natalie Heising, either). I think the coaches are still figuring out who works best with whoever else, and I'm glad it's not me who has to do that.

On the "flashes of great stuff" note, freshman Izzy Heminger was named the CHA Rookie of the Month for November:

It does seem like they should have more wins right now, but the good news is it's a long season ahead still and I think they'll be able to make the CHA playoffs. Not to suggest the regular season is almost irrelevant within the CHA but it kinda is.

With only six teams in the CHA, I don't see a problem with everyone making the tournament - it would be pretty boring otherwise. It does make the regular season standings sort of irrelevant, other than for tournament seeding, but there's a national tournament waiting for the winner of the CHA, so teams have the regular season to work things out and be at their best come tournament time. Nobody is half-stepping through the regular season.

Great photo. Now that's a team I'd like to be a part of. You can tell they're a tight knit group that has fun and they probably don't take themselves too seriously which is awesome.
