I remember Josie Bothun's name from the U18 conversation. With still another year of high school before coming to Penn State, she'll start here after Jenna Brenneman graduates, when Chantal Burke will be a senior and Cam Leonard will be a redshirt junior. I like hearing that she's being coached by Noora Raty.

Tomorrow's 6:00 game at #4 Princeton is being broadcast on ESPN+, but I don't know if you need a subscription or not. Even if you do, it's really cheap...something like $4.50 a month, for all kinds of sports.

The game streaming video link is here: https://www.espn.com/watch/_/id/5cc61...e-vs-princeton

Penn State will have had three days off and be coming off a road trip, and #4 Princeton will have had 17 days off and be at home, so it's already stacked high against Penn State. If they do beat Princeton, either Penn State is a lot better than their record says or it says a lot about what rankings mean.

It is $4.99/month and you have access to hundreds of games of all types.

Or it gives some insight into rest versus rust. Princeton's top line and goaltending are very good. Offensively, the Tigers don't seem particularly deep.

Good luck Kampy in your return to Princeton! Maybe another Tuesday night game will treat Penn State well. The teams played last year but somehow the stakes seem bigger this year.

Here's what Kampersal had to say about returning to Princeton for the first time as the Penn State head coach:

Well, that was a horrible start for Penn State, giving up two power play goals in just the first six minutes. Princeton leads the shots on goal 9-6, but Penn State looked like they were settling down and starting to get more into the game by the end of the period. Penalties are already 3-2, with Penn State taking the three. Penn State has hit the crossbar once, and had another goal whistled off on an early whistle with a loose puck.

7:30 into the second period and it's already 4-0 Princeton, with three power play goals...ugh.

At the end of two it remains 4-0 Princeton. They lead in shots on goal, but only by 16-13, so it's not like they're steamrolling Penn State, but everything is sure going their way. Penn State had another goal called off in the second and hit the crossbar again. Princeton has blocked 15 shots to Penn State's 9, so it's closer offensively than the score looks.

Penn State ends up losing 4-2 to #4 Princeton, and didn't look bad at all for playing their fifth game in nine days. Penn State finished the game leading in shots on goal 31-25 and winning faceoffs 30-23. They took five penalties, though, which killed them on the scoreboard, as Princeton needed their power play for three of their four goals. Thankfully, Penn State finally gets some time off to recharge before facing Robert Morris on February 8. This game was a lot closer than it looked after two periods.

Zed did you watch the game? I did not, but I looked at the play by play this morning and on the five players that were out there for State's two goals (the same exact five), how often throughout the game were those five out there together? Was it something the coaches were going to or was it stumbled upon? Considering Penn State was down two zero within seven minutes, the team performed admirably well. One would think that the Coaches are going to take a hard look at the pk because it was exposed again?

I did watch the game, and those three forwards (Meilleur, Slattery, and Welch) were listed together in the lineup as the second line, with Adolfsson and Heminger on defense (Crow and Gangarosa were listed as the starting defense), but I wasn't keying in on the line combinations throughout the game. I don't know at what point Crow and Gangarosa moved to the Meilleur/Slattery/Welch line. I don't know what happened to the penalty kill - they went into the game with the top PK unit in the CHA at just over 85%, and had shut down the last 11 power plays.

Despite the final score, I admire this team for not quitting when they were down 4-0 with 3:34 to play - they kept grinding until they put two goals on the scoreboard. Things sure didn't look good being down 4-0 at the halfway mark of the game. Princeton didn't exactly hammer Penn State, scoring only one even-strength goal, but the Penn State penalty kill was a big letdown, and special teams are just as much a part of the game, so credit to Princeton for taking advantage when it was given to them. A couple of Penn State shots that hit the crossbar and a goal that was called off didn't help.

I did watch a little of the Syracuse games, it was a pain that you could not fast forward ( not going to wait 15 minutes for the next period to start,)or replay, so it was mainly the first period of each game but Penn State's luck has got to change at some point. Madsen hit a post square on the game's first possession and had the goalie flat footed. Then, the refs waived off another goal on a loose puck on a pp that was jammed right through the goalie's pads. I think it was Rankin or Nelson (no rewind). And then Brennerman losing her stick (hopefully everybody learned to just get the goalie her stick from that five hole shot). That's a lot to take. Lol.

I just noticed Cornell beat Syracuse 5-2 last night. However, Syracuse did get off to a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes. What is it with the ECAC loving Tuesday games?

That goal should have counted. I was impressed with Penn last night. They had a lot of fight in their game maybe a little too much early on (penalties). They will be tough to beat in the CHA playoffs. I would not want to play them.

Former Kampresal recruit Brooke McQuiggie had verbally committed to Princeton and was expected to play the 2018-19 year, but stayed an extra year in the PWHL and I just noticed she announced her commitment to Clarkson. I was hoping Penn State was going to get her.

Penn State freshman defender Rene Gangarosa was named the CHA Rookie of the Week for the second time this season:
