I prefer Dan "The Common Man" Cole's rule that 7/10 are basically idiots. His average listener is proof positive and no I am not one of them.

Depends how you define idiot. By definition, the average person is... average. But yes, intelligence appears to have a right-skewed distribution:

What are you, some kind of pinko "citizen of the world" commie now?

At the end of the day, just like other world leaders, Putin is only as popular as his ability to keep most of the population fed. That's separate from his grip on power, which lasts as long as he keeps the oligarchs, the military, and the cops fed.

Never thought I'd see a Russian hipster though.

                            From twitter:

Palmerston 1858: "The policy and practice of the Russian government has always been to push forward its encroachments as fast and as far as the apathy or want of firmness of other Governments would allow it to go, but always to stop and retire when it met with decided resistance."

If Haspel is appointed to CIA chief her reign will be exactly like that of Allen Dulles. Running their own foreign policy and generally doing what they want to do when they want to do it with no conscience and no adherence to any law whatsoever. If you think that's hyperbole, read just a tad about Haspel, Bill Casey, Jim Angleton, Dulles et al
