    Re: Colgate 2017-2018

Important 2-0 shutout tonight against long time nemesis Princeton. Hopefully this will clear our heads going forward as we now know we can beat them and if them anyone. Vandyk was fantastic at the end. Don't know how she preserved the shutout!

Another convincing win on Sat vs. Quin (4-1)....as I commented earlier in the thread, getting through October and the 1st weekend in November would tell the early story about this team. Although there is a lot of hockey left in the season, Gate has to be thrilled at this start...with an Ohio State beat down by Wisc. on Saturday, a 4th place ranking should be in the cards come Monday...even if Ohio State keeps today close, Saturday's game shows that Ohio State still has some work to do to be in the top 5. Go Gate!

Anyone heading to New Hampshire for this weekend's series? Admittedly 2 pm Friday and 7 pm Saturday are inconvenient at best for a road trip.

                # 3 ( 2 PWR ) 11-1-0 'gate sweeps UNH; will take to the road against Yale and Brown

One concern I have right now is how the women seem energy-drained in their 2nd games on the road.
This was especially the case at St. Lawrence two weekends ago, where they had a major upset of Clarkson in a 6 PM Friday night game. But registered their sole loss ytd at a 3 PM afternoon tilt at St. Lawrence on Saturday. That was a tough/short reboot off of a spectacular high. The ladies looked low energy compared to a charged up St. Lawrence team rebounding off of a defeat by Cornell the night before

As with the St. Lawrence game, the ladies looked a little low energy this Saturday after knocking off UNH 7-1 on Friday night.
After suffering their first home loss of the year to 'gate, UNH came out at full energy on Saturday. The sign of really good teams is that they find ways to win. Though being tied 1-1 through most of the game, late in the 3rd period, 'gate found a way to beat UNH 2-1.
                .
'Gate replaced Clarkson at #3 in the Nov.12rh USCHO poll after Clarkson's loss to Vermont on Friday night. Gate remains at #2 in the PWR behind 16-0-0 Wisconsin.

You're dead on RA and it is a concern against good teams. Not sure why, but we seem to come out with less focus and energy on the second night and really never are able to get into the flow with the same sense of urgency we had the night before. With the same team scenario like this weekend it's sort of understandable as you just beat them easily so maybe you're overconfident but against SLU they should have been sharper. It's also very obvious so I'm sure the coach and all the players are looking for a solution. If we can just keep it going through the season and into the playoffs the extra day we'll get between games then should be very helpful. That said we are #3 in the country. That's a very big deal. This is one hell of a team and right now when fresh in a one game winner take all format could win against anyone! The Cornell series at the beginning of December should be very interesting. They gave Wisconsin a battle this weekend especially on Sat night. Maybe even Wisconsin can't play at the highest level 2 nights back to back

                      # 2 ( 2 PWR, 13-1 ) 'gate WIH sweeps Yale & Brown, heads to Windjammer Classic @ Vermont over TG wkend

"Feels like a #2 ranking tomorrow..." was prophetic by go'gate, reflecting a potential swapping of places with #2 Boston College. BC, now 10-1-2, gave up a tie to Conn. over the weekend. I thought the move to the #2 spot would likely follow a potential sweep of Cornell Dec. 1 & 2.

I hope the Cornell series doesn't distract 'gate from the serious business in front of it at the Windjammer Classic against Minnesota Duluth on Friday and the winner of the Vermont/RIT game on Saturday. I still have a slight concern about 'gate's sluggishness in its 2nd games on weekends. Other than that, no complaints......isn't this a blast ?

                        Re: Colgate 2017-2018

Just enough juice to get us to the penultimate spot where we will probably stay until we lose or Wisconsin loses 3 or 4. Hopefully we can win the ECAC title or tournament along the way and then make the big tournament. This is all new territory so some or all of it would be more than exciting and great for the team. That said let's not put the cart ahead of the horse. Ranking means little now except it puts a target on our backs...

Excellent perspective Oldtimer. I've noted you've been following the turnaround from the beginning. What makes this turnaround so exciting when coupled with the impact of the '65 Arena is that it may presage an enduring new competitive role for 'gate WIH for years to come. In that respect, what we're witnessing might distinguish itself from the other exciting one-off Cogate splashes on the national scene. One game at a time !

Based on the next few recruiting classes, it looks like that is a true statement. Time will tell though.

                              ECAC 1st Placers, #3 Colgate ( #2 PWR ) and #7 Cornell ( #6 PWR ) h&h battle Dec. 1 & 2

It doesn't get much better than this during the regular season. Cornell ( 5-3-1, 5-1 ) is coming off a sweep of #10 Providence on the road. Colgate ( 14-2-0, 5-1 ) registered its second loss of the season to Minnesota-Duluth 4-1 on Friday and rebounded to knock off RIT 6-1 on Saturday in the Windjammer's Classic at the University of Vermont.

A sweep by Colgate would go a long way to confirm that they are clearly one of the 3 top teams in the ECAC and a serious NCAA tournament candidate, as mid-season break approaches. 'Gate would also surely reclaim #2 in the national polls. Cornell has been Colgate's nemesis in recent years, dominating the series for the past 10 years. Interestingly, Cornell leads the series 13-21-4.

A sweep by Cornell will power them up several places in the PWR and the national polls. So, there's a lot at stake, not to mention continuing to be co-#1 in the ECAC.

I hate being a pure homer. Not my nature. But, Colgate has to get the Big Red monkey off it's back. I'll go with a 'gate sweep this weekend.

This weekend looms very large. No. 3 vs. No. 7 rival Cornell...the Raiders deserve better fan support in the stands, especially for this game. Didn't read much here about the loss to UMD. Colgate was outshot 32-25, took 5 penalties (UMD scored once); Vandyk gave up an uncharacteristic 4 goals. Raiders play 5 ranked teams for the remainder of the year. The strong start has catapulted this team to new heights and likely into the postseason, even if they falter along the way.

Anxious to see how Northeastern fares against #2 BC tonight and hoping they pull off the upset. Huskies only getting votes in this week's poll with 9-7-2 record; the better they do, the more impressive our sweep becomes. Right now, not so much. Despite our improved play, Cornell is no pushover. Based on history, there is little reason to expect a Colgate sweep. A split is realistic, yet disheartening. Staying hopeful.
