Unfortunately, it looks like they're not adding a team at this time. Maybe soon, though?

Looks like an announcement of the annual Blackhawk outdoor game.
"Through the years, we ever will acclaim........"
Best chance is Iowa if they get the endowment money for a Mens and Womens program. They have the facility hurdle box checked as the new $73 Million Coralville Arena will be built right by campus:

Next would be Nebraska since the have the Breslow Ice Arena and Pinnicle Bank Arena having an ice floor.

Illinois has no barn or endowment money.

from the USHL site today....
Have to think that tomorrow's announcement will be along similar lines but don't know why Illinois would be involved unless the NHL is going to channel some funds to the ACHA as well.Bill Daly, deputy commissioner of the NHL, joined senior leadership from USA Hockey and the United States Hockey League in announcing a long-term agreement that will provide financial support and other resources in furthering development of players, coaches and officials participating in the nation’s top level of junior hockey – a primary springboard to NCAA Division I and professional ice hockey. The agreement establishes cooperation in the following areas: both on-ice and off-ice player development, coaching, officiating, playing rule development, and cross-promotion, in addition to marketing, communications and community engagement.
“We depend on amateur hockey organizations all over the world to develop the players, coaches and officials that aspire to matriculate to the NHL,” said Daly. “The USHL has consistently demonstrated an ability to produce outstanding talent. Going forward, it is our continued intent to focus resources on the USHL’s developmental efforts.”

I wonder if he would match a certain dollar amount to entice UoI alums to help fund a D1 program, so the B1G can get back to an even number of teams?
Though that's a bit of a stretch, I can also see it being something like "Look what we did at Penn State. You can be successful here."
The more I think about who is involved, the more confused I get.

CHN is reporting the NHL is paying for five schools to have feasibility studies done to start Division 1 programs. Illinois is one of those schools.

The #Illini will partner with the @NHL and @NHLPA to evaluate the possible addition of hockey as a varsity sport. https://t.co/S6vNnPO9r8

Anybody remember the University of Illinois - Chicago (UIC) Flames?
I went often when I lived in Milwaukee.
It would be great if the University of Illinois
was in a position to have a D1 team.
