A trip to the Maritimes probably means 'young, future' type recruits - in other words, not immediate help. Hopefully, it means real talent either way...

How can we possibly expect UNH to compete with the tiny DIII athletic departments of the world, their dated and dreary off-campus arenas, their stricter academic standards, their gigantic price tags and their horrendous recent histories!!

You forgot to add the lack of player 'lounges', weight rooms that rival Gold's Gym, pristine locker rooms with the team's logo plastered in the middle, larger than life!!! Oh, oh and a world class college education, to boot! I mean, what else could a player want?!?

Neutral Zone scouting report, from 2017 CJHL Prospects Game, on #UNHCommit Ty Taylor (Catches Left, 6-3/201 Vernon Vipers, BCHL) 7-5-1999
                Rated 4 Stars
“Taylor is a big goalie who covers a lot of net, plays sharp angles and absorbs the puck giving him solid rebound control. He started for Delta last year putting up an impressive .941 SV% and has been able to make a smooth transition to the BCHL where he has a .907 SV% and 3.01 GAA. Here he faced 11 shots and let in 9 of them, neither of which were soft goals. He has good body control and athleticism and did a nice job of holding his posts and never getting out of position. He’s the only goalie here who was ranked in NHL Central Scouting’s Mid-Term Rankings where he sits 24th among North American goalies.”

Think I saw him (pretty sure) at the 'Whitt last weekend. Very exciting!! Any idea when he's coming in?? I believe he wears #35 if I'm not mistaken...which, will be available...

                  • Taylor is a nice grab - he's playing very well on a very good team. Watcher mentioned him earlier as a possibility. We'll see if he's right again and Taylor comes this fall.

He won't turn 19 until July so it could go either way, but UNH may want to do everything they can to get him into school ASAP. His MJ rights were traded from Prince George to Portland on January 10. Though the main piece was Dennis Cholowski, a transaction like this indicates Portland is probably very interested in taking a run at Taylor...

I wouldn't take a chance in sending him back to JRs. If Taylor comes next year that is likely the end of Adam Clark's career at UNH...

Ty Taylor (21-4-3) is the top goalie in the BCHL in win percentage (.75), goals aganst average (1.82), save percentage (.932), and shutouts (7). His goalie coach with the Vernon Vipers is former UNH goalie Sean Matile.

                      • Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2017 and Beyond Kudos on getting Taylor. I expect he will be a co-equal starter with Robinson next year, and I'd give him a slight edge to get more playing time the next three years. His little brother is a promising 02 defenseman with Delta Hockey Academy http://www.csshl.ca/leagues/rosters_...ayerID=1606782 and his rights are also held by the Portland WHL team. If the old gang (Krog and Bekar) are in town this weekend, I hope (assume) UNH has arranged for recruits to be there. Might be tough for Canadian kids, but New England kids are hopefully impressed.

Prince George GM Kevin Harkins claims above that the Ty Taylor trade was 7-for-1 because Taylor was 'never' going to play in PG. Hopefully that means he's locked in on the NCAA route and Portland was just acquiring a lottery ticket. They're still certain to pitch him and holding the rights to his brother may give them optimism...

Bingo! So Dan and Watcher, this tidbit prompts two questions. First, how important is it in recruiting to have alums coaching players that they could steer to their old school? And, UNH specifically, do we have a list somewhere that shows where former UNHers are coaching? I seem to recall Christian Bragnalo coaching at Shattuck, but that's 10 years ago. Any insight?

It certainly can't hurt. Christian Bragnalo is back coaching the Bantam team at SSM (currently '03s). UNH hasn't had an SSM kid in forever. Hopefully thy changes with Scott Morrow's kid. Rob Gagnon WAS coaching at Cushing and UNH has pulled a couple of kids out of the prep school (Boyd, McElhaney - Boyd 2.0?), recently.

There are others coaching HS (Walsh, etc) and Eric Flinton is coaching a strong club team (including his two sons) out of NH. I'm sure there are others at the JR level - at least in secondary roles like Matile. So far the connections haven't really paid off for UNH. Similar to how the father-son connections have failed them often. Nate Hanley committed to Northeastern today...

Hopefully, with Souza being a teammate - or at least a contemporary - of all these guys that may start to change...
