Originally posted by Drew S. View PostI just realized no one born in the 90's has won a men's grand slam title yet. It really is remarkable just how dominant the big four have been. I think even those of us who love the game take it for granted to a large degree.
though Cilic was "only" 25 when he won the US Open in 2014....
EDIT: and Del Potro was 20 when he won the US Open in 2009. Someone born in 1991 would be 26 this year... though I agree on the dominance. Except for those two and Wawrinka's three Majors, wow!
Going back to the start of 2004: 54 Majors. Big 4 are 47 - 7 over that time span.
Also, regarding Venus, if it were not for losses to Serena, she'd probably have several more major titles and a shorter gap between Wimbledon singles titles....Venus is 5-3 in Wimbledon finals alone, all three losses to Serena.Last edited by FreshFish; 07-12-2017, 12:42 PM."Hope is a good thing; maybe the best of things."

Re: Tennis...Anyone?
American Sam Querrey takes down Andy Murray in five sets, first American to reach semi-finals at Wimbledon since Andy Roddick in 2009.
Roddick made Wimbledon finals three times. That 2009 finals match was a classic: Roddick only lost one service game the entire match!! while he broke Federer's serve twice. Yet Federer won, 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 16-14."Hope is a good thing; maybe the best of things."

Originally posted by Drew S. View PostNot to nitpick, but Cilic actually beat Fed in 2014 US open semi. Cilic best Nishikori in the final. It def is a similar setup though."Hope is a good thing; maybe the best of things."

Re: Tennis...Anyone?
It looks like Federer has become comfortable with his new, larger racket. He used to slice a lot more backhand returns than he does now, he hits through the backhand now with a lot more pace and topspin than before.
He also seems to be using his tennis intelligence quite a bit more than his competitors.
Against the baseline bashers, or big booming servers, you will notice how close in he stands on the court compared to most others; so that he can catch the ball on the rise (where most others wait until after it has bounced fully). While he might have to sacrifice some power by blocking the ball back, he makes up for it in two ways: accuracy, and in rushing his opponent's follow-up response (i.e., disrupting their rhythm). He cuts out not only the extra time for the ball to reach him were he to stand further back, he also cuts out the bit of time it takes for the ball to go back again."Hope is a good thing; maybe the best of things."
