  • WMU @ UND: Murray is preparing the Broncos for the series by having them watch Fargo.

The end of the regular season is here and there is much left to be decided. WMU heads to Grand Forks having split the weekend with Denver. Bronco's are still in the hunt for home ice for the post season. I'm hoping we get it, as facing Miami in Lawson worked out well for us last time. UND is coming off a disappointing, but somewhat expected split with SCSU. The Ralph will be rocking if UND sweeps and takes home the Penrose Cup!

I will be making a trip from Kalamazoo all the way to Grand Forks for both Friday and Saturday's game. I am excited to see the best arena in college hockey and visit North Dakota for the first time in my life. Since I began following college Hockey I've always considered UND to be my second team. I love their history and the intensity of their players, coaches and fans. I look at this weekend as a win-win for myself as, if the broncos take any points I consider it a victory, if UND sweeps I'll be happy to see them win the regular season title. Any tips for the weekend are GREATLY appreciated... My friends and I have no idea what to expect in Grand Forks. Please let us know what not to miss.

I watched Fargo again to remind myself of the North Dakota stereotype!

    Go Broncos!! You Betcha !

Don't listen to that last guy...go to the Red Pepper any time!! It does taste better when you're drunk though. Also, if you're looking for late night food, Deek's Pizza is open until 3, or there is also the Big Sioux Cafe and the Roadhouse Cafe (they're nearly identical) which are open 24 hours.

I have hotels, restaurants and bars to recommend... I just was way too **** drunk to remember any of the names. So I guess best piece of advice I have is don't get tickets in the student section like I did... they won't let you bring in alcohol to your seat
tUMD is Jan Brady per Brenthoven. Whew.... thanks for clearing THAT up.

Funny... I would've thought the Sioux of all teams would like the war paint....

No I am not that guy. He seems to be preoccupied with the bouncy ball teams success.

If it's a good paint job, knock yourself out. But when you look like a complete fool who's IQ is below room temperature, I shall not support your silly gimmick.

Re: WMU @ UND: Murray is preparing the Broncos for the series by having them watch Fa

We're a youger crowd thats coming to ND, my girl and I are alumni having graduated 2 years ago. The other two coming with us are WMU avaition students still in the program.

Of the places people suggested "red pepper", "Roadhouse Cafe", etc. are these like just restaurants with a bar? or is this like where the student go to get sloppy? I guess it would be easier if I specified what I think we're looking for. We, with our young livers and childless lives, are looking for like the student nightlife... not necessarily a club but someplace upbeat. A brewery would be ideal if there is one... maybe someplace to play pool?

I have no idea what to expect in Grand Forks. Kalamazoo is a City in Michigan with several (nationally well known) breweries, plenty of student bars, the beer exchange (look it up), a couple of GREAT piano bars, the first outdoor mall, an Air Zoo (airplane museum), lots of parks, a nearby casino, pretty much anything else you're looking for. On the opposite end of the spectrum are schools like Ferris State in Big Rapids, Central Michigan in Mount Un-Pleasent, and Eastern Michigan in Yipslianti all of which are located in the middle of nowhere. Ferris has a few dive bars, an apple bee's and a Buffalo Wild wings. Central is just a pit of corn and trailer parks. Yipsilanti has nothing that can compete with nearby Ann Arbor or Downtown Detroit.

My hope is that Grand Forks is a Kalamazoo type of college town with things to offer and not a Big Rapids/Mt. Un-Pleasant type place... What's everyones take? Where can i venture out to take in North Dakota, or should I just stay in the hotel room and play Pinochle all day....

Red Pepper, Big Sioux, Roadhouse are just restaurants (the latter two are truck stop diners). No booze. Those are suggestions for after booze. From what I can tell, Joe Black's "downtown" is still a pretty busy bar (there are 3 or 4 in a small little cluster "downtown"), as is Sledsters. A couple other places I liked to go when I lived there was Rumor's in the Grand Cities "mall" and El Roco. I'm not sure of the demographics of them since I haven't been there in 5 years, but downtown is probably your best bet for the 20's/30's crowd.

From your description, Grand Forks sounds like it's in between Kalamazoo and Big Rapids. Since you have some aviation people with you, there is an aircraft museum in Fargo (an hour drive south). You could also wander around Odegaard, Clifford, and Ryan Halls (aviation/aerospace facilities), or see about getting a tour of flight ops at the airport as well.

The Red Pepper and Roadhouse Cafe are late night spots for food but I would suggest going to Rhombus Guys for pizza and drinks either Friday afternoon or Saturday. If you're looking to pre-game head to Muddy Rivers or Rumors and you can catch the bus to and from the arena, I always recommend Muddy Rivers because it will get you right back downtown for the night. Head to Bonzers for a few drinks after the game then around 11pm walk over to Joe Blacks and join the human jungle gym. JB's is full of completely hammered co-eds and is the Sun when it comes to gravitational bar pull in Grand Forks. Have fun and enjoy the games!

                        Thread title made me chuckle.

If you're looking for college atmosphere/pool playing downtown you can hit multiple bars within walking distance from each other like Sledsters(college bar w/ decent prices), The Loft(pool tables), Brick & Barley Bar(New more laid back bar),O'Reilly's Irish Pub(standard irish pub), Level 10(GF's version of a "club"), Joe Black's(aka Joe Blackouts).

One word of warning though, it will most likely still be very cold, especially come 2 AM and taxi service in DT Grand Forks is non-existent! Your cab will get stolen over and over and there is no way to guarantee you will have a cab come the end of the night once they kick you out of the bars. So make sure to figure out a ride situation beforehand if you'll be out towards bar close. I've had to give out-of-towners rides because they very likely could've frozen to death in -30 temperatures trying to walk home.

But despite that it can be a really fun time going to a game at The Ralph and going out! If you really want to get a local bar under your belt, Judy's is a trailer converted to a bar off of Gateway Drive. This was a hot spot for a lot of hockey players when they played for the Sioux and they still will stop in when they're back in town. I let a guy have a table once bc he had a large party and it was just me and a friend. Come to find out it was Brian Lee and he bought us a round of drinks for letting them sit there. Also, they have foosball so you can't really go wrong.
