  • How Is Harvard Getting Poll Votes?

"Polls are irrelevant" ... Yes, I know. But I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one.

Am I missing something here? The only objective argument I could see is a low number of total losses... But really??

10 Wins in 29 Games Played

    0-5-3 against Top 20 Teams

What is it about this team I'm missing that they wound up on multiple pollster's Top 20 lists, as well as #18 on INCH?

We're in the "everyone's a winner" generation. Or haven't you heard? They are feel-good votes. Like alms to the poor.

I hope I get some of the votes that Harvard was getting.

Are there any Harvard alumni who get to vote? Because the idea of a Harvard alumnus admitting that any school that isn't Harvard could possibly be better at anything than Harvard seems laughable.

This team will be legendary. Set a ties record that won't soon be tied. Probably something to do with that.

Either that or you could infer something nefarious about the influence of money/power/connection in our society.

                    Your pick.

I assumed they were buying their votes and didn't bother to start a thread to state the obvious.

Hey, OSU is 1-9-2 in their last 12 and 1-9-4 since the new year, and THEY got votes (more than Harvard even)!

Re: How Is Harvard Getting Poll Votes?

In all seriousness, I guess the answer is that many of the voters probably look to the PWR as a starting point for casting their ballots at this point in the season, and some weren't prepared to give an Atlantic Hockey team the benefit of the doubt on strength of schedule. And also apparently were thoroughly unimpressed with LSSU.

When you rank more than a third of all hockey teams you are going to get some medriocrity rewarded. Poll should be 15 teams at most.

Checking one person that I know releases his vote to the public, Harvard is not on the list.

Possibly one reason they were ranked (and I would assume by some of the ECAC writers, although this person I checked is an ECAC writer) is because they had a very strong power play, and they finished third in the league.
